Docus stifled a scream as he felt Caspin's dagger penetrate. His body was battered, poison and concussions and wounds flowing together into one great ache of weakness and pain, and it was getting to be too much. The hardships of the road were one thing. Open wounds and poison were another altogether. He certainly wasn't used to it. He somehow felt that he hadn't signed up for this. He was strong, but... he was scared. He was in pain. He really didn't want to be here right now.

But here he was, and this was now. And as he looked around, he realized. Pain and fear were irrelevant. They were all fighting for their lives here, not just their own, but each other's. Something had driven him to run forwards, and fight here, despite being poisoned, despite the terrible headache that the branch had left. And, gritting his teeth, he felt that flare up again. He would fight. And they would succeed. His injuries weren't crippling, they could save Fie, and he somehow felt his strength returning, slowly, gradually. His mind wasn't clear yet, but soon, soon it'd have to wear off. So they could still win. With proper coordination, albeit. But maybe he could contribute on that count. People hadn't been very receptive lately, but he realised. The right word at the right time. Being reasonable was fine outside of battle. In battle... perhaps a little less respect was in order.

"Fie, you need to look out for yourself! If any of you have a potion left, for the love of god, heal him with it, we can't afford to lose him! I'll deal with Caspin. The rest of you, focus on the larva, we'll deal with the queen as soon as our strength returns! Prasad, whatever you did, don't do it again. What else have you got?"

That was all he could do. He prayed they'd listen. But now he'd made a promise, and while he didn't particularly look forwards to going up against a dagger-wielding psycopath, it was time to face the music. He couldn't let him attack Fie again. So, armed with only his fists and his wit, he started towards the charmed blue mage, face locked in a grin, half of fierce joy, half of fear. "Hey, jackass!"

Try to tell people what to do, try to distract and attack Caspin

Caspin smiled as the little guy took care of Prasad, he had more important bounty to worry about at the time, and looked like his darling queen was dealing with Jade. What a sweetheart, though something that Docus said crept on his brain and made him grin so big,

"You'll take care of me Docus? How brave."

He turned around and began walking toward him, poisoned and battered, weaker and with no magic. No weapon. Nothing. Docus couldn't have taken care of a large rodent let alone Caspin, but he had the gall to say he could, how absolutely delicious,

"I think you need a lesson!"

He lifted up his dagger and brought it down with all his might.

Fie looked at Vera with an old doctor's expression that was generally followed with "Well, you aren't any deader!" It involved raised eyebrows and a whole lot of something that just wasn't quite eye contact.

What a wash that had been, and there were only more and more cases springing up with every shot the larva took. It was time to cut the poison off at the source.

Fie braced himself, and took a running leap at the nearest larva, hoping to squash it before it could get another shot off at his allies.

Arhra 02-24-2011 07:43 AM

Caspin was running away from Jade, going after Docus instead. The crazed chef loomed over the sickly looking tarut. Docus was taunting him. It was an unequal match.

Fie looked like he was on his last legs, leaping on one of the larvae. If it managed to vomit on him, they'd lose him.

"Damnit!" Jade snarled.

The fighter made a snap decision "I'll deal with you later!" she howled at Caspin and Docus.

Darting over to Fie, she ducked and grabbed the little tarut by the back of his robe. She hauled him off the insect, took two quick steps past it and tossed him down in front of her.

Spinning her sword in her grip one handed as she began to turn, she jabbed behind her at where the larva had been, hoping to skewer it with her oversized blade. A single jab and she completed her turn, facing the giant insect once more but firmly interposed between it and Fie.

"Don't be so careless!" she snapped over her shoulder. "Do you have any potions left? I have one."

McTahr 02-24-2011 09:22 AM

Fie looked up at the warrior, dazed, dizzy, and certainly still catching up with the last few seconds or so.

"Oh, uh, no. All of my gil went towards a soft for the mark."

He did at least manage to get to his feet and take a more defensive stance, ready to try and block a poison shot with his hat, if need be. It would be a shame to sacrifice it, but he was slightly more fond of his skin.

Bah. The queen moved at the last moment and instead of shoving the poison down her gullet and incapacitating her jelly spit, the blade of Argath's spear simply skidded ineffectively against her exoskeleton. Lousy bitch.

Still, she was blinded now, and extremely unlikely to get any more of them with the jelly.

So, from his vantage point, he noticed Jade defending Fie from a larva. Deciding he had rode the queen long enough, jumped off her back and flew, spear first, at the little bastard.

Fie's flying leap, smashes the wriggling creature enough to elicit something of a screech from it, but before it can turn to attack the mage, Jade hefts him out of harms way and her knife smashes down toward it, knocking it rolling, just before Argath's follows up, doing the same.

Meanwhile, a small distance away, Prasad blasts apart the Larva that Caspin had thrown toward him, while the blue mage's dagger finds itself turned aside by Docus's leather armor, and Vera limps away from everyone, trying not to die. Perhaps not the most heroic thing, but she who runs away lives to run another day.

Her fears are, perhaps, in vain, however, as the queen misses another slash vaguely in the area of the warrior Jade, and the injured larva finds itself incapable of landing any more of it's poison spit, even as Caspin's head clears, putting him back on the proper side of the engagement.

And, more than that, the party's weapons find their edges once more, and their muscles feel reinvigorated.

...Things were beginning to look up. If they could survive the poison.

Caspin raised up his dagger to try to make another attempt to get past that damn armor when suddenly his mind came back to him, the memories of the last few seconds were a bit more clear than he would have liked, honestly he actually felt really bad. I mean more about Fie than Docus, Docus deserved a little of what he got. Fie had been nothing but neutral to him, and that really was all he could ask for from him, and he had just about killed him.

The mental vertigo of that moment was cruelly interrupted by the nasty spit that he caught out of the corner of his eye, wizzing past immediately after. He remembered he was still in a battle, he'd have to save his apologies for later. He moved toward the poisonous crawler looking to put it out of its misery once and for all.

Move to the main battle.

Dracorion 02-24-2011 07:07 PM

As soon as the larva he speared was death, he could feel his weapon's edge returning to it. Smiling widely, he turned to the last living larva.

The little bastard needed to be kept from poisoning anyone before it kicked the bucket. Particularly if its next target happened to be Fie. So Argath thrust the newly sharpened blade of his spear into the bug.

This was not Prasad's best day ever. Not nearly his worst, either, but still, things could be better. He could have not gotten his hand burned. He could have remained unpoisoned. Hell, a million gil and a corps of cute secretaries to help count it could have rained down from the sky instead. Man, what an awesome day that would have been, but nooooooo. Prasad had to go fight goddamn bees.

Wincing from the pain in his hand and the poison burning through his veins, the moogle breathed a sigh of relief as at least the unfortunate result of the errant misrolling of his dice suddenly wore off, allowing him to make another go at Lady Luck, and with his potentially life-threatening and assuredly uncomfortable wounds making their presence quite known, Prasad decided a Healer's Roll would be just the thing to sooth his precious little nerves.

And then he heard Docus.

"Prasad, whatever you did, don't do it again. What else have you got?"

The little tarut was standing there, just the most pathetic-ass sight one could ever imagine. Out of MP, poisoned, beat all to hell, and apparently that creepy blue mage had just stabbed him. He could see Docus looking at him helplessly, wordlessly, but his sad, probably teary eyes communicated everything perfectly: Please, for the love of god, Prasad, use an Evoker's Roll! You're our last, best, handsomest hope and I promise to sing your praises forever if you just get me one little shred of MP! Please?

And so it was settled: Another Destructive Roll!

...Nah. Prasad, chuckled to himself, deciding to throw a little goodwill toward the annoying little bastard, and let his dice loose.
