Docus grinned. People weren't listening as well as they could, but finally, finally... things seemed to be going their way again. At least they had poison, now, they could see how the queen liked a taste of her own medicine. Or... maybe they didn't? In a rapid exchange he saw the queen do... something to Caspin, Caspin plunge his dagger into the venom sack, Vera steal it from him and then he saw Caspin turn, turn towards him with a poisoned dagger in his hand an an eerie smile on his face.

Docus, for all his diplomacy, wasn't great at empathy, he frequently found it hard to tell what others were feeling. Not thinking, he was good at that. But feeling. It was one thing he'd have to work on. But despite this self-confessed weakness, one look into Caspin's eyes was enough to tell him that something was wrong. The Queen had spit something at him, something... sticky, and there was an enticing smell in the air. And Caspin's expression was strangely similar to that of Gloria, when he had... He shook his head. He hadn't known better, that had been an abuse of power and he should be ashamed of himself. No use dwelling on that. But one thing he did take from that unfortunate episode was acute knowlege of what a charmed individual looked like, and Caspin's expression matched. He gulped. Caspin was charmed, armed with a poisoned weapon, and coming straight towards them. He couldn't let him reach Fie, he realized. Fie was their best hope right now.

Docus' mind raced, but, somehow, he already knew what to do. He couldn't just recognize charm. He was good at it. And, unless he was mistaken, the Blue Mage would be vulnerable to him. Time to put that to good use. He licked his lips, partly nervous, partly just to improve his appearance, made an effort to straighten up, and, eyes wide and unthreatening, called out. "Caspin! Caspin what's wrong? Are you allright?" Making sure to maintain eye contact, trying to relax his facial muscles as much as possible (though raising his eyebrows, that always helped), he slowly started walking towards Caspin, hands held out to his sides, palms open and facing towards Caspin. A classic gesture of unthreatening surrender, and, for once, it helped that he was three feet tall. His mind raced. He had the body language down allright, he hoped, but what to say, what to say... He briefly grinned. "Caspin, what are you doing? We need you fighting!" His voice was soft, again, non-threatening. This wasn't the usual pattern, standard procedure was to couple the body language with something more authoritative to assert mental dominance, but that probably wouldn't work well. So, non-threatening it was, and, as Docus pleaded, he felt... something flow into his voice, somehow stood straighter, felt his eyes sparkle, his voice become strangely melodious. This was what he had trained for.

"Caspin! ('Frequent repition of an individual's name will convey a sense of urgency without surrending dominance over the situation') Snap out of it! I'm sorry I ignored you before, Caspin, I was wrong. Come back, Caspin. Fight with us! Together we can win. And then we can cook them. Let's cook them together, Caspin. Come on, we need you." He gulped. That was... allright, it would have an effect on Caspin's already-addled mind, he hoped, but it wasn't enough. He needed a coupe de grace. And he knew just what to do. Didn't like it, though.

His expression shifted from scared and unthreatening to just slightly fliratious, his lids half-lowering, eyes going from fear to longing, body language becoming much more inviting. He hoped he wouldn't regret this.
"Caspin. We need you. And I need you."

The things he'd do for the team.

Steal Caspin's heart.

Poison. More poison. Just great. Give it a minute and the Udrafresk'll have time to wake up and reconfigure their pasty bloated corpses into mallets and such so he(she?) and the Queen can play Tarut Tennis. Already the sickening "THWACK" as he was launched back and forth over the remains of the hive, his tiny hat jutting out between a complete mess of gore. Somehow in this intensely vivid reverie, the queen was even swinging a Jade mallet with her claws, and it wasn't made of the gem.

Fie pulled his hat down tighter over his head, trying his best to somehow be anywhere else, or at least think about anything else.

Or! Or the queen could use their mangled and broken bodies for a warm festering breeding ground, bringing about some kind of super man-eating bee that lives only to sate its lust for flesh and bone! Fie could already see them descending on the academies in hordes. Thousands of terrified Tarut fleeing as they see their comrades impaled and turned into Tarut-on-a-sticks! The heads of the bee legions were even wearing "trophies" from the remains of their old hives. How sentimental.

Damnit. They hadn't taught him how to deal with this in his training. Walking around and healing people on short pilgrimages didn't prepare you to watch the situation go from bad to worse to suicide. They couldn't reliably hurt her, her children were spitting some kind of hell venom at them, Caspin was looking for a little Tarut filet, he was out of useful mana for healing, and the Udrafresk was going to wake up any minute!

Berlion's voice intoned in his mind once more.
"Calm down. Do your duty. Back to the basics."

He was a white mage, damnit.

Fie took a deep breath and pushed his hat back up. He hesitantly took a few steps towards Vera before trying to dash his way around Caspin to get to her.

Krylo 02-22-2011 03:07 AM

Perhaps it was the 'I' need you, or perhaps Caspin simply couldn't understand the words through the royal jelly induced haze, but Docus's attempt to break his charming failed, and he still took his chance as Fie dashed past, the dagger slashing through the Tarut's arm, doing little more than superficial damage. Of course, the white mage couldn't take much more of that.

Meanwhile, Prasad took aim and blasted apart the injured Larva, while Jade continued smashing her fist into the queen's eye, blinding her, and, without sight, her attempt to charm more of her opponents with the royal jelly flinging from her mouth hole proved fruitless.

Her remaining two larva, however, had better luck, their spit splashing against Argath and Docus both, and absorbing into their blood stream.

"Hold her still so I can shut her up." Argath told Jade, applying poison to his spear. "But try not to get yourself spat upon. The rest of them would be pissed if I had to put you down."

"Don't get cocky!" Jade snapped. She was the one fighting an giant insect with BARE HANDS.

Bare hands finally smashed up the Queen Bee's remaining compound eye, blinding the monster. But the situation had gotten bad.

"Take care of this." Jade told Argath offhandedly, leaving him to deal with the Queen Bee on his own.

Tail twitching, she stormed towards where Caspin was menacing Fie, curving slightly to pass by where she had left her sword. She seemed to not have noticed a larvae was in her path.

"Get out of there Fie!" she shouted at the little Tarut. "I'll handle this. And you, Caspin," she snarled, picking up speed. "Stop snacking on every strange thing you see and GRIT THOSE TEETH!"

She'd just reached one of the larvae. She'd noticed it after all. With a vicious swing of one heavily armoured leg, she wound up and kicked it like a football at the honey addled blue mage's head.

A few steps more and Jade's right hand snaked out to her side. She snatched a hold on her sword's hilt and pulled it from the ground with barely a hitch in her stride. Shaking the remaining dirt loose, she moved the massive blade to a two handed grip and sped up again.

Caspin had a snarling Viera headed straight for him.

OOC: Action summary: Hey Caspin! Hey! HEY!

Dracorion 02-22-2011 08:33 AM

Argath felt a rush of sickness as the larvae's poison washed over him. Damn. That sucked. "Well that's a waste of time." He muttered as Jade left to charge at Caspin.

Holding his spear with both hands, he angled it with the queen's head. "Open wide!" He yelled, before shoving the shaft down her gullet with all his strength.

Poison the queen.

Overcast 02-22-2011 08:35 AM

Caspin stared at Docus a moment. He finally realized why Argath had been so angry at him before. This...this was the most terrible thing that had ever happened to him since he came out of the closet back in Cornelia. He stared blankly at Docus for a minute, and was able to sum up one minute phrase in his magnificent mind,

"Dude, what?"

He wasn't even really thinking when he saw Fie run by, he just kind of stabbed him out of habit. Still hit though, he hoped the poison stuck. He shook off his disgust for a minute and stared at the little creeper,

"Somebody is going to have to pay for putting my mind what I just went through. Not even Blue Magic has had that much of an effect on my psyche as that has."

He got ready to unleash his stabbings when he heard someone say his name, he turned around and there was Jade, doing her typical thing of intuitive violence. The larva kicking was a good move he had to say, he did a little dance for the guy as he moved to catch him.

---------------------------
Dex check to catch the Larva, then more to come!

McTahr 02-22-2011 07:35 PM

Fie had tried to duck past him, but Caspin's dagger still managed to clip him on the arm as he went by. He barely noticed, still so focused on the horrors in his mind as much as the duty that lie ahead of him. Quickly doing his best to judge which of his allies was in the most dire of situations, he set to work trying to at least curb the progress of the poison in Vera slightly, if nothing else.

Geminex 02-22-2011 09:13 PM

This post almost contained a flashback. Maybe another time.

Docus groaned as Caspin's heart slipped from his grasp. He really needed to work on his persuasion. The flirting at the end really hadn't helped. And, of course, the bastard had gone straight for Fie. The White Mage had taken a beating already, and, however heroic his efforts seemed to be, he was putting himself in serious danger here. And, looking around, Docus realized that the last thing he wanted was for them to be facing this without a white mage, who could at least had some healing skills.

His thoughts were interrupted by a green spray of venom that formed a green, stinking patch on his robes and then seemed to sink in through is skin, making him feel extremely queasy. A sharp pain flared up in his abdomen, and he suddenly felt himself freeze. Poison. Goddamn poison. For the first time this mission, he was scared. Not shocked an at Udrafresk, or addled and startled by bees, but genuinely afraid. Of course, no use running. Couldn't run from poison. You could hope to survive it, if you responeded right. He gulped, suddenly sweating. Fie really had to survive. It was personal now. He himself couldn't do much, but there had to be a teammate who could. He ran towards the battle, yelling.

"Hey! Fie's wounded! Somebody heal him, or we're not getting out of this alive. Someon's gotta have potions on them! And Prasad, one last volley at the queen! And how long is that damn roll of yours gonna last?"

-------
Move into short range of battle, yell

Overcast 02-23-2011 08:12 AM

He got pelted in the face by larva when he missed the damn thing. It didn't hurt all that much, just a minor inconvenience. He leaned down and picked the little creep back up and did a little dance for him,

"Hey little guy, go after the furry creep over there. He's definitely going to be doing some shooting in a minute."

He ended with a nice little flourish toward Prsad as Docus tried to run past him, which honestly was fine by him. If he wanted to get himself killed in the main battlefield he was welcome to it. But he best not expect he would be able to pass by Caspin without the threat of being stabbed. He lashed out with his dagger at the little creep. Trying really not to think about Jade, or at least not be threatened by her.

He wasn't quite strong enough to be a serious threat to the warrior. He had to play to his strengths.
---------------------------
Attack Docus.

Krylo 02-23-2011 08:36 AM

Caspin's blade draws blood from Docus, as the red mage charges past, a near perfect repeat of the moment with Fie mere seconds ago.

Meanwhile, Argath attempts to ram his spear into the queen, only to have the dulled edge deflect against her hard carapace, the poison smearing across it harmlessly, while Prasad blasts another hole in the next of the larva. Unfortunately, it isn't enough to kill it, and with Vera receiving emergency medical attention from Fie and everyone else busy, the larva lives to strike back, the poison splashing against Prasad's fur and sickening him, while its twin attempts to poison Fie, but finds the small tarut of a surprisingly hardy constitution, the splash of foul liquid apparently leaving him unaffected.

The queen, while her larva attempt to finish spreading the poison, stands and charges toward the sound of the warrior who had been holding her, but without her sight, her claws find no flesh to claw, and she slashes the air harmlessly.

Geminex 02-23-2011 08:11 PM

Docus stifled a scream as he felt Caspin's dagger penetrate. His body was battered, poison and concussions and wounds flowing together into one great ache of weakness and pain, and it was getting to be too much. The hardships of the road were one thing. Open wounds and poison were another altogether. He certainly wasn't used to it. He somehow felt that he hadn't signed up for this. He was strong, but... he was scared. He was in pain. He really didn't want to be here right now.

But here he was, and this was now. And as he looked around, he realized. Pain and fear were irrelevant. They were all fighting for their lives here, not just their own, but each other's. Something had driven him to run forwards, and fight here, despite being poisoned, despite the terrible headache that the branch had left. And, gritting his teeth, he felt that flare up again. He would fight. And they would succeed. His injuries weren't crippling, they could save Fie, and he somehow felt his strength returning, slowly, gradually. His mind wasn't clear yet, but soon, soon it'd have to wear off. So they could still win. With proper coordination, albeit. But maybe he could contribute on that count. People hadn't been very receptive lately, but he realised. The right word at the right time. Being reasonable was fine outside of battle. In battle... perhaps a little less respect was in order.

"Fie, you need to look out for yourself! If any of you have a potion left, for the love of god, heal him with it, we can't afford to lose him! I'll deal with Caspin. The rest of you, focus on the larva, we'll deal with the queen as soon as our strength returns! Prasad, whatever you did, don't do it again. What else have you got?"

That was all he could do. He prayed they'd listen. But now he'd made a promise, and while he didn't particularly look forwards to going up against a dagger-wielding psycopath, it was time to face the music. He couldn't let him attack Fie again. So, armed with only his fists and his wit, he started towards the charmed blue mage, face locked in a grin, half of fierce joy, half of fear. "Hey, jackass!"

-----
Try to tell people what to do, try to distract and attack Caspin

Overcast 02-23-2011 08:18 PM

Caspin smiled as the little guy took care of Prasad, he had more important bounty to worry about at the time, and looked like his darling queen was dealing with Jade. What a sweetheart, though something that Docus said crept on his brain and made him grin so big,

"You'll take care of me Docus? How brave."

He turned around and began walking toward him, poisoned and battered, weaker and with no magic. No weapon. Nothing. Docus couldn't have taken care of a large rodent let alone Caspin, but he had the gall to say he could, how absolutely delicious,

"I think you need a lesson!"

He lifted up his dagger and brought it down with all his might.
-------------------------
Caspin shows Docus his stabs.

McTahr 02-24-2011 12:56 AM

Fie looked at Vera with an old doctor's expression that was generally followed with "Well, you aren't any deader!" It involved raised eyebrows and a whole lot of something that just wasn't quite eye contact.

What a wash that had been, and there were only more and more cases springing up with every shot the larva took. It was time to cut the poison off at the source.

Fie braced himself, and took a running leap at the nearest larva, hoping to squash it before it could get another shot off at his allies.

Arhra 02-24-2011 07:43 AM

Caspin was running away from Jade, going after Docus instead. The crazed chef loomed over the sickly looking tarut. Docus was taunting him. It was an unequal match.

Fie looked like he was on his last legs, leaping on one of the larvae. If it managed to vomit on him, they'd lose him.

"Damnit!" Jade snarled.

The fighter made a snap decision "I'll deal with you later!" she howled at Caspin and Docus.

Darting over to Fie, she ducked and grabbed the little tarut by the back of his robe. She hauled him off the insect, took two quick steps past it and tossed him down in front of her.

Spinning her sword in her grip one handed as she began to turn, she jabbed behind her at where the larva had been, hoping to skewer it with her oversized blade. A single jab and she completed her turn, facing the giant insect once more but firmly interposed between it and Fie.

"Don't be so careless!" she snapped over her shoulder. "Do you have any potions left? I have one."

McTahr 02-24-2011 09:22 AM

Fie looked up at the warrior, dazed, dizzy, and certainly still catching up with the last few seconds or so.

"Oh, uh, no. All of my gil went towards a soft for the mark."

He did at least manage to get to his feet and take a more defensive stance, ready to try and block a poison shot with his hat, if need be. It would be a shame to sacrifice it, but he was slightly more fond of his skin.

Dracorion 02-24-2011 12:03 PM

Bah. The queen moved at the last moment and instead of shoving the poison down her gullet and incapacitating her jelly spit, the blade of Argath's spear simply skidded ineffectively against her exoskeleton. Lousy bitch.

Still, she was blinded now, and extremely unlikely to get any more of them with the jelly.

So, from his vantage point, he noticed Jade defending Fie from a larva. Deciding he had rode the queen long enough, jumped off her back and flew, spear first, at the little bastard.

----------------------------------
Tempt fate.
Show larva 2 your stabs.

Krylo 02-24-2011 01:11 PM

Fie's flying leap, smashes the wriggling creature enough to elicit something of a screech from it, but before it can turn to attack the mage, Jade hefts him out of harms way and her knife smashes down toward it, knocking it rolling, just before Argath's follows up, doing the same.

Meanwhile, a small distance away, Prasad blasts apart the Larva that Caspin had thrown toward him, while the blue mage's dagger finds itself turned aside by Docus's leather armor, and Vera limps away from everyone, trying not to die. Perhaps not the most heroic thing, but she who runs away lives to run another day.

Her fears are, perhaps, in vain, however, as the queen misses another slash vaguely in the area of the warrior Jade, and the injured larva finds itself incapable of landing any more of it's poison spit, even as Caspin's head clears, putting him back on the proper side of the engagement.

And, more than that, the party's weapons find their edges once more, and their muscles feel reinvigorated.

...Things were beginning to look up. If they could survive the poison.

Caspin raised up his dagger to try to make another attempt to get past that damn armor when suddenly his mind came back to him, the memories of the last few seconds were a bit more clear than he would have liked, honestly he actually felt really bad. I mean more about Fie than Docus, Docus deserved a little of what he got. Fie had been nothing but neutral to him, and that really was all he could ask for from him, and he had just about killed him.

The mental vertigo of that moment was cruelly interrupted by the nasty spit that he caught out of the corner of his eye, wizzing past immediately after. He remembered he was still in a battle, he'd have to save his apologies for later. He moved toward the poisonous crawler looking to put it out of its misery once and for all.
-------------------
Move to the main battle.

Dracorion 02-24-2011 07:07 PM

As soon as the larva he speared was death, he could feel his weapon's edge returning to it. Smiling widely, he turned to the last living larva.

The little bastard needed to be kept from poisoning anyone before it kicked the bucket. Particularly if its next target happened to be Fie. So Argath thrust the newly sharpened blade of his spear into the bug.

Make it a member of the Midnight Crew.

POS Industries 02-25-2011 03:36 AM

This was not Prasad's best day ever. Not nearly his worst, either, but still, things could be better. He could have not gotten his hand burned. He could have remained unpoisoned. Hell, a million gil and a corps of cute secretaries to help count it could have rained down from the sky instead. Man, what an awesome day that would have been, but nooooooo. Prasad had to go fight goddamn bees.

Wincing from the pain in his hand and the poison burning through his veins, the moogle breathed a sigh of relief as at least the unfortunate result of the errant misrolling of his dice suddenly wore off, allowing him to make another go at Lady Luck, and with his potentially life-threatening and assuredly uncomfortable wounds making their presence quite known, Prasad decided a Healer's Roll would be just the thing to sooth his precious little nerves.

And then he heard Docus.

"Prasad, whatever you did, don't do it again. What else have you got?"

The little tarut was standing there, just the most pathetic-ass sight one could ever imagine. Out of MP, poisoned, beat all to hell, and apparently that creepy blue mage had just stabbed him. He could see Docus looking at him helplessly, wordlessly, but his sad, probably teary eyes communicated everything perfectly: Please, for the love of god, Prasad, use an Evoker's Roll! You're our last, best, handsomest hope and I promise to sing your praises forever if you just get me one little shred of MP! Please?

And so it was settled: Another Destructive Roll!

...Nah. Prasad, chuckled to himself, deciding to throw a little goodwill toward the annoying little bastard, and let his dice loose.

-----------------------
Use Dice - Evoker's Roll.

Geminex 02-25-2011 06:12 PM

Docus' smile widened. Things were looking up, finally. He only prayed that Prasad's next roll would succeed. He somehow suspected that this was another make-it-or-break-it, though preferrably they had more to gain on this one.

Surveying the battle, he decided it was wisest to stay where he was. Not like he could do much, anyway. Though he edged away from Caspin, that jerk had seemed a little too eager to stab him.

Still, while he waited for Prasad to work him -hopefully literal- magic, he could always... advise. "Jade! See if you can't crack her armor a bit, give her a few more weak spots! We'll thank you for it later! And Vera, get the goddamn hell back into battle, if you want one gil of that reward!"

CelesJessa 02-25-2011 10:12 PM

"Up yours, Docus."

Vera growled as she heard Docus calling to her, swaying dangerously from the effects of the poison and her quickly draining hits. She pulled out a potion, shooting back a retort to Docus, "I won't be much help if I'm dead. And you're crazy if you think I'm walking away without my share."

-------------------
Use potion, try not to die.

Krylo 02-25-2011 11:40 PM

Caspin, his mind returned, headed back toward the queen with murderous intent, as Argath slew the last of her children, Fie kicked her in the shin, and Vera tended to her wounds.

Jade, however, stared down the queen, pulpy holes met mithra eyes as the two prepared for mortal combat. It was Jade who struck first, her blade smashing into the queen's carapace with incredible force, but it was not a blow meant to kill, instead painful cracks radiated outward from the point of impact in her exoskeleton, driving the queen into a fury, slashing claws flying through the air as she screamed and twisted, calling for aid that would not come.

Meanwhile, across the battlefield, Prasad rolled his dice once more. A four and a two, appearing face up before they returned to him in a flash, and, almost instantly the mages in the group could feel their magical power returning.

As Caspin moved to try another stabbing at the Queen there was a sudden feeling inside of him. He felt...warm. Like that first glass of wine at the start of a meal, that sort of sensation like water on an empty stomach. Not quite satiation, but nourishment. After being so empty.

He stared at his hand with a grin, his magic was coming back to him, perhaps not quick, but he didn't need much. He let out an intuitive blast of good smells from his new spell and began breathing in the sweet scent. It was time.

He imagined the taste, sweet like honey, a faint salt and smooth like a shake. Yet warm. Not an altogether pleasant taste, but underneath was the strange taste of magic, beneficial. Of both health and mind restored. Yes, the sweet smell of pollen already filled the air, but he had more to give his friends.

With nothing else to do, Fie had made the best of the situation by taking out a little aggression on the queen. A good round of the blame game always made the situation seem brighter, even if the situation involved his entire group slowly dying of poison or quickly dying of a severe case of Udrafresk-itis.

And then a burst of mana hit him. He had a little trouble standing through the sudden influx of energy, and his vision hazed as his veins pulsed heavily, thumping to the beat of the lifestream.

It seemed their ally Prasad had stumbled on a bit of luck, quite possibly the first they'd seen. Fie almost felt like they might actually have a chance at succeeding in their mission. He wasn't about to say that out loud though, fate seemed rather touchy.

Fie immediately began pulling from his renewed reserves, preparing to shower Argath with glinting holy shards, and hopefully breath a little life into the severely wounded mithra.

Arhra 02-26-2011 12:47 AM

The charm affecting Jade's sword had sworn off, the blade recovering it's sharpness with a glint and an audible ring. Jade grinned, sidestepping the queen bee's clumsy flailing.

"I've had enough of you!" she told the bee. This fight had gone on long enough. She was sick of the constant buzzing, insectile screams and the poison throbbing in her veins. "It's time to finish you off! Argath, Vera, Prasad all together now!"

The end was finally in sight, she felt new energy running through her. The bee was blind and hunting blindly ahead of it for the elusive mithra warrior. Jade circled around and then stepped lightly after it, sword raised overhead in a two handed grip. Darting in, she smashed it down on the bee's damaged carapace.

Dracorion 02-26-2011 01:03 AM

Wincing from pain and poison, Argath turned slowly to the queen. Shaking his head to clear his mind, he took in his surroundings. "Fie!" He told the diminutive mage. "Heal yourself! If she gets you, we're screwed."

With an angry growl, he charged at the same time as Jade's sword collided with the queen, and, putting all his strength into it, he attempted to hit the same spot at the other mithra.

McTahr 02-26-2011 01:16 AM

"Fie! Heal yourself! If she gets you, we're screwed."
--

Fie scoffed. He knew what Caspin was doing, and in a minute his own efforts would be hardly worth it. He was merely picking up the slack, and dealing with the most wounded. Still, he couldn't help but grin.

"You'll just have to bring her down before she gets the chance! Think you've got it in you still?"

Krylo 02-26-2011 02:43 PM

Attacking in unison, Jade and Argath smash the queen, pulp oozing out from her cracked carapace, as Vera moves in to help, and Prasad raises his guns to fire, only to have them jam (will take one standard action to clear them.)

The queen, enraged, slashes forward at the Mithra warrior again, again to have her blows easily avoided in her blindness, but this time would be the last, as flames erupted from her body, and the scent of roasting bee washed over the battlefield, from Docus's spell, while Caspin and Fie both did what they could to return the party to fighting shape, magical healing closing wounds and restoring vitality, particularly to Argath, who found himself in perfect shape once more thanks to Fie's magic.

Everything on the battlefield seemed strangely quiet... they had bought a brief reprieve, though a snort from the Udrafresk as it rolled over in its nap reminded them that it would not last for long. They still had one more opponent to deal with.

COMBAT OVER.

Prasad will take six more damage if not treated for poison soon, and Jade will take two more. Caspin has 30 more MP coming to him, while Fie and Docus each have 36 more, over three spells, assuming they just keep casting. (I'm saying if you start now you can cast three more cures and three more pollens and still have full MP, if Fie attempts to fix Prasad's poison, that will take one 'round' of movement and one 'round' of healing, and one 'round' of casting, meaning he won't be able to get any free casts in... OR start combat immediately with the fresk, but any conversation is going to count as one 'round' of evoker's roll).

McTahr 02-26-2011 03:01 PM

Fie set about making the best of the roll as he could. He wasn't sure how long it would last, but he definitely had a feeling something like this would be short-lived.

"Caspin, do us all a favor and do a bit more pollenation, maybe? And don't worry, Prasad, I'll have you set up in a moment, but you'll have to steel yourself against the poison for now, I'm sorry."

--
Cure self, Docus, and Prasad. Prasad specifically last to wait out the poison damage/maximize effect. Fie would know that most of his heal would be wasted if he healed him first, and he'd still be poisoned, etc. etc.

Casin grinned at the corpse of the Queen and was licking his lips getting ready to chow down and collect some jelly when he heard Fie talking words behind him. He frowned, but after what he did to him, he kinda owed the little guy. He sighed audibly and lifted up his hands, sweet healing wafting over everyone.

Krylo 02-27-2011 07:16 AM

The mages set to work, bolstered by the effects of the gamblers roll, and it takes little time to get the group back into full fighting shape.

Now: What to do about the Udrafresk?
----------
All hp and mp full for the group.

Dracorion 02-27-2011 10:05 AM

As soon as the queen went down, he felt Fie's magic wrap around him, healing his wounds. After taking a deep breath as the party surveyed the damage, he approached the diminutive White Mage. "... Thanks." He said quietly.

As Fie and Caspin set to healing the group, they were posed with the question of what to do with the sleeping Udrafresk. "I say we beat the crap out of it again to give ourselves a 'new clock' so to speak. If we can poison it by taking some from the bees, we find something to tie it up and carry it back."

Overcast 02-27-2011 10:24 AM

Caspin saw everyone sitting at full strength and turned his eye back to the Queen, and all the little underlings around her. He didn't think there was too much more magic to salvage but he was going to do what he needed to do as he felt it,

"I'll be exploring our current conquests if you don't mind. I'll try to harvest enough poison to last us back to town. And the queen has a nice little item for us to sell back home...or use ourselves."

He first approached one of the little grubs. Still twitching just a little, and raised up his dagger, gutting it like a fish and working through the innards, picking out the poison gland before tearing into it with his teeth, till there was little left of the thing.
--------------------
Devour larva, harvest concentrated poison gland.

McTahr 02-27-2011 05:49 PM

Fie nodded to Argath.

"A good plan, but perhaps instead of immediately re-engaging the beast, we could grant ourselves this momentary reprieve to split up and search our surroundings as you said. Enough of us should stay here and keep the Udrafresk down should it wake, while a few look for something to at least temporarily confine it. Even if our search only brings up a temporary solution, it would buy us time for someone to head to town and acquire rope or some other form of binding to hold it until we reach the cage."

Fie glanced around. They were more or less as good as they had been before the entire fiasco, aside from a few tears and scuffs on their armor and the occasional wounded pride. With Caspin clearing out the corpses so quickly, they hopefully wouldn't stand out as an attractive beacon for any nearby monsters. The only question that remained is who would go, and who would stay.

"Are there any volunteers to go hunting for bindings, and most likely venturing to town as well? I'll be staying here with the main group, and it's best if Caspin continues to er...clean...the area. We don't want more dingos coming to feast. We could perhaps spare two or three people to do the searching. Any more and the Udrafresk could become a severe threat."

Geminex 02-28-2011 07:14 PM

As Prasad made his roll, Docus had felt something, a note or chime, a clear tone in the back of his mind. And then the terrible, helpless void within him had been refilled with a glorious stream of fire, and he hadn't even had to act or think before the fire had flowed from him, blasted from his palms and finished off their foe. And then, their job done, their last foe sleeping in the background, he'd let himself fall back, laying on the grass and just... drifting... off...

Not for long, though. There was work to do. He sat up, cross-legged and refreshed, thinking. Caspin was working on the bees, people were already arguing. Perfect. Now he just needed to add his own two Gil.

"By all means, let us scout. But consider this. The Udrafresk, whether stationary or on the move, will have to be kept constantly weakened. Mostly because doing otherwise, even if we let it sleep and put some distance between it and us, would risk it suddenly waking up, surprising us and possibly getting in a lucky hit. Or even escaping! Unlikely, but possible. This is compounded if we split up, since we'd be losing a lot of firepower. Not to mention other dangers. There's more dingos out there, maybe other things as well. So I'd advise against splitting up. And since we need to keep the Beast weakened anway, why not just transport it the way it is? We may be able to find some materials to restrain it, and if we work out ways to keep it weak while we carry it, we can reach town... soon enough. And without taking massive risks. Not to mention-"

He stopped as, near his foot, he heard a faint buzzing. He looked down and crouched, next to a scorched and wounded bee. He winced. This one had been his work, and those burns had to hurt. He bore the bees no grudge, their behavior was... natrual, albeit agreesive. Just as his actions had been necessary, at the time. He still shuddered as the bee's stinger twitched. The larval poison had worn off quickly enough, but he still hated, hated that feeling of dying from the inside. He shook himself. That was behind him. He'd carry an antidote from now on. He couldn't let that control him. In front of him wasn't a threat... it was an ally, albeit potential. He turned around, called Fie over his shoulder.

"Fie! Could you help me? This bee... might be useful yet!"

Then, humming under his breath, trying to imitate a bee's buzz, he gently placed his hand on its antenna, focused. He had a... knack, of dealing with beaten opponents and he could usually communicate with the more intelligent beasts. So he visualised, visualised a victory (theirs) and defeat (the bee's), and the price of defeat (death). But there was an option. Alliance, it could merge into their hive, serve their queen (Docus), fight along their side. Its old cause was gone, he offered it a new one, encouraged its acceptance, or death. He willed his thoughts to flow into his humming, the trembling of his hand, and, little-by-little, he felt he got the message across.

-----
Docus: Mediate with bee

McTahr 02-28-2011 10:01 PM

Fie looked to Docus. And then to the bee. And then to Docus. This carried on for a few more times before he simply sighed and looked down.

More bees?

This hadn't been enough?

Whatever Docus' plan was, it better be good.

"Okay, but you're responsible for it. I'm not especially into bee-friending these things after all that."

Fie stepped gingerly behind the bee, and at arm's length set about trying to mend some of its wounds, ready to dart back once finished.

McTahr 02-28-2011 10:18 PM

Suddenly, something came over him.

Fie watched the bee's life begin slip away before his very eyes. Maybe he'd been seeing this all wrong. These weren't just bees. They were bee people, with bee families and bee lives. That could have been Bee-Carl that Caspin just ate earlier. He and Bee-Steve were best buds. The very bestest.

It was on their first day in the hive they crawled together as larva, suckling at the sweet honey from the same spot in the honeycomb, looking up nervously at their queen, who now lay tattered and burned upon the ground. They'd both fell into love and devotion then, swearing a Bee-Blood oath to fight together for the queen. Upon becoming full fledged Bee-Adults, they regularly double-teamed flowers, pollenating while Bee-High-Fiving across the top. Nothing had ever stood in their way, they were Bee-Bros of the highest caliber.

Fie's eyes teared up. How could Bee-Steve face the day after this? How could anyone?

"Damnit Bee-Steve! Don't you die on me!"

Fie slammed his tiny fists into the ground next to Bee-Steve's unconscious resting form. Slowly, he faced skyward, and shook his fists at the heavens.

"I won't let you take him Bee-God! You're a cruel, heartless bastard who's taken every shred of love and life he's ever known, but his Bee-Blood will still pump! Bee-Steve is a fighter, damnit!"

Fie put more heart into curing this bee than he had ever known, drawing upon previously hidden reserves of bee-love.

...Perhaps the stress was getting to him.

Arhra 03-01-2011 06:51 AM

There was much discussion going on, virtually all of it coming from taruts. Jade watched them bemusement, her catlike ears beginning to flick with irritation. What were they even doing, messing with that bee?

"Too." Jade began, each word a sentence unto itself. "Many." She gave Ducus a long look and then Fie. "Woooords." She drew the last word out, to underline this unquestionable statement of fact.

The wariror unlaced the green half skirt she wore over her armoured leggings and twisted it up to make a short rope. "You three," she said, pointing at Vera, Argath and Caspin, "cut some branches. See if we can make some sort of litter to drag this thing."

She stalked toward the udrafresk like a hunting cat, "We'll need a gag too. Grab a piece of wood or a rock to put in its mouth and something to tie it in place."

Jade glanced aside at the moogle. "Prasad, if it moves, shoot it."

Watching the fallen fiend for any signs of movement, Jade stood next to the udrafresk Once certain it wasn't about to leap to its feet, the tall Mithra bent over and grabbed one of it's arms. Both hands wrapped around the udrafresk's thick wrist, she hauled on the limb to roll the udrafresk over onto its belly. From then she intended to bind it's hands tightly behind its body with her improvised rope.

Dracorion 03-02-2011 12:13 AM

Argath sighed as Docus opened his mouth, suggesting they not split up, and went on to do something stupid. He sighed even more when Fie joined in.

Then, Jade started talking, telling Vera, Caspin and him to gather branches to make a stretcher while she tried to tie the Udrafresk's arms. "Does this look like a cutting too to you?" He remarked, waving his spear lightly. Walking over to her, he knelt down and pushed her hands out of the way, taking over the job of tying the ape. "That big sword of yours is more useful for cutting branches, so you go do that."

Krylo 03-02-2011 09:19 PM

Coaxed to consciousness by Fie and to cooperation by Docus, Bee-Steve slowly twitches his bee antennae, and then his bee legs, before his little bee wings begin to flap quickly, bringing his bee body buzzing in the air about their heads, ready to serve his new queen, though he mourns still for his old queen and for Bee-Bob. He would shed a single tear if he could, but his bee eyes have no tear ducts.

However, poor Bee-Steve has little time to mourn, as the two viera manhandling the Udrafresk cause it to wake. It's arm flings out of Argath's grip before its large hand smacks him away, sending the Dragoon tumbling across the ground to land on his back, covered in bruises, before raising to its feet and letting out a mighty cry of rage.

In response, Bee-Steve begins to quiver and shake, small orbs of pollen fluttering off his body. He was too injured to fight, and needed to restore his strength if he was going to join in the battle. And the dragoon would benefit as well, it seemed.

Looking up from his meal to Jade telling him to go get some binding materials and was about to complain when Argath got bitch smacked across the field by the rising Udrafresk. He slurped down the remaining larva and after a quick gulp raised his hand up,

"No time now. Everybody, lets kick his ass! AGAIN!"

He opened up his mouth and started chargin his lazer to deliver some hurt to the big bad beast. No use caring about the magic arm for now. They just needed to throw all they could at it just like last time.

Dracorion 03-03-2011 01:34 AM

"Son of a bi-" Argath began, before the creature's arm smashed into his torso, sending him flying.

Zephyr quickly rushed to his partner's side, the little dragon was clearly worried. " 'm fine." Argath groaned, petting Zephyr on the head. Rubbing his chest, he stood up slowly.

"Just got with the same strategy as before." He told his teammates, as he shook his head to clear it and, ignoring the pain, rushed for the monster's right arm.

Geminex 03-03-2011 05:38 PM

Docus berated himself as he stood, turned around, realized what was happening. He should have realized that something bad was about to happen when Jade told him he was talking too much. He really should have seen this coming.

In his defence, people told him he talked too much all the time, and it never resulted in them waking up a 10-foot beast intent on murder. And Jade... Jade really should have known better. She should have. His fists and teeth clenched, his breathe coming more quickly. He was livid. Too many words, fine, but words would have prevented this. Words would have worked. But nooooo, the Viera had to wake up the giant murderbeast.

Docus closed his eyes, forced himself to breathe slowly, deeply. Emotion was fine. Later. For now... Another deep breath... For now, they had to take the Fresk down again without losing anyone. He glanced towards Fie. He realized he'd come to rely on his fellow Tarut, and somehow, he was glad of that. He would have to come to... trust, or at least connect with, his fellow team members. But for now, for now it was good to have one to stand together with. "Or'vento! ("White One!" [White Mage, honorific]) "Steve can heal our allies, we must take down the Beast! Let me strengthen your spell, our power combined can break the beast sooner."

McTahr 03-03-2011 06:04 PM

Fie palmed his forehead and looked at the ground with the uncovered eye. He just couldn't, physically or otherwise, bring himself to look at or even consider the last couple seconds.

Did that really just happen?

Was it even possible for someone to be so willing to get smacked by an eight foot terror-ape?

("The beast is sleeping, let's make use of our time."

"No! Let's shuffle it around and piss it off!")

He was gingerly tapping his ribs once more when he heard Docus.

"By all means, let's make this quicker than the last. Nothing can stand for long against a steaming tornado of tarut fury."

The winds came so willingly, even they seemed tired of this ordeal and eager to be finished.

Geminex 03-04-2011 04:26 PM

Docus eyebrows rose and he shot Fie a grin. Had the White Mage been looking, he would have seen Docus' pupils disappearing in a hot while glow as the mage again called upon the fire inside of him. "Full agreement on the Tarut Fury. But steaming? I must say, I prefer... smoking. Now lets clean up this mess."

He would have loved to spout further one-liners, but casting in tandem took even more focus than usual. Docus closed his eyes, felt the heat inside him once more. He had tapped into it, and it was at his fingertips, on his tongue, in his eyes. Docus raised one hand in a fist, not clenched in rage, but loose, in concentration. His to unleash.

But brute force wouldn't do, he needed to be... creative. As he wove his spell, fist still clenched, he felt his power permeate the battlefield again... and as he let it flow, felt the heat stream out of him, the air around Jade, Argath and the Fresk began to glow with the red of suppressed Fire. Docus' magic diffused, not in a great blast of flame, but in a simple, steady stream of heat, flowing into the air around them. They'd be sweating, their throats hurting with each breath, but that wasn't the point. The point was that hot air rose, quickly. And as air flowed and wind started blowing around the combatants, particularly the Fresk, Docus grinned again, and waited for Fie to do his part.

Krylo 03-06-2011 11:05 AM

Working with surprising teamwork, the three Viera quickly shatter the crystals on the Udrafresk's right arm, while Prasad attempts to take aim at the creature's body, only to have its left arm intercept the bullets, which ricochety off harmlessly, while the Udrafresk himself begins to work up a load of his stoning saliva in his mouth, some of the drool dripping from between his lips as he prepares it, just before his body is surrounded in fire and wind, eliciting a gargling howl of rage from the creature, even as a laser lances through the inferno and into its body.

As the smoke clears, a light dusting of pollen flickers down over the party, restoring lost health and magical energies.

He ran straight for the Fresk waving his arms around with a mad grin on his face, bodily movements summing up in monster to something like,

Hopefully old wounds didn't heal quite so well as the beast's regen would lead him to believe.

Fie looked warily at the Udrafresk.

If he turned to stone, and the cure for it was in his pocket, how would they get it? Chisel away at his robes until they reached it, or drag him back to town, perhaps popping off bits and pieces along the way if there happened to be a rough trail?

Discretion would be the better part of not becoming a lawn ornament.

"Does this look like a cutting too to you?" Argath said in response to Jade's demand for branches, waving his spear lightly. Walking over to her, he knelt down and pushed in to take over tying up the udrafresk. "That big sword of yours is more useful for cutting branches, so you go do that."

"Why don't you-" Jade began.

The Udrafresk picked this moment to wake up. "Son of a bi-" Argath began. It swatted him aside.

"Stop wussing out and get back here!" Jade shouted over her shoulder cheerfully. Three Viera attacked and many crystals were broken. The udrafresk was winded, lasered and set on fire. The air was heating up, something was off. The udrafresk was gargling up a mouthful of something undoubtedly horrible. Jade licked her dry lips and thought for a moment.

"Don't worry about the other arm!" Jade shouted. "Just finish him off!"

Sweeping her blade around herself in angled strikes to keep the wide, flat surface of the massive weapon's side partially interposed between her and the udrafresk's mouth. Keeping an eye out for someone else to make their move and draw off the udrafresk's arm, she darted in and struck.

OOC: Attack Udrafresk body.

Krylo 03-13-2011 02:20 AM

Bee-Steve, still feeling himself too close to death for comfort continues to shake his little bee butt, pollen continuing to sprinkle outward over the party, as Jade, Vera, Argath, and Prasad all attempt to attack the body of the beast, only to find their attacks deflected with surprising ease by the creature's large stony arm, blades and bullets turned away with equal ease.

Caspin in the meanwhile, taunted the beast into targetting him, though it was unnecessary as the Udrafresk did, indeed, remember whom had injured him before, and let loose a disgusting loogie. Where the saliva hit the blue mage, his skin began to harden into stone, but he quickly shook off the effects, flesh turning to flesh once more, even as the blue magic worked its way into his blood and mind teaching him the Udrafresk's own ability.

And then the creature's left arm erupted in flames, burning away flesh and causing the Udrafresk to howl in pain as its arm hung at its side, too badly burnt to deflect any more blows.

Fie eyed the beast. Both arms were out of commission, and it seemed to be waving a bit where it stood. Surely his assistance would just be a waste of reserves they might need later.

No sense letting his guard down though.

A rush of elation overtook Argath as the Fresk's left arm went down from Docus' magic. Caspin had been hit by the mark's drool, but unfortunately wasn't petrified. Instead, he might just have learned the spell. He'd have to watch out for that.

Regardless, now that the Udrafresk was defenseless he rushed forward, striking at its midsection.

Caspin rubbed the oozing mass of saliva off his form with a faint amount of disgust. Eating was usually a fair bit more sanitary than this, no wonder he didn't resort to learning Blue Magic the old fashioned way. This was just awful. He raised up his hands in response aiming up at the big palooka. Usually he wouldn't try a cast this close, but right now he just wanted the creep dead and he wasn't in the mood to run away, he built up his lasers to send him reeling.

Begin casting Homing Laser.

With the udrafresk disarmed, all that was needed was the finishing blow.

And so, raising her great big sword, Jade lunged forward with the intent of doing just that.

Krylo 03-22-2011 11:38 PM

Blades slashed against the great beasts torso, and bullets ripped through its body, but still it kept coming. Even as the mediated Bee's claws lashed onto its face, tearing flesh with surprising ability, it continued its charge, directly toward the blue mage who had put himself in range of the creature's anger, as he charged his lasers. lifting his arm high, the Udrafresk smashed Caspin in the chest, hard enough to send blood spewing from the mage's mouth, even as his built up energy was released from his finger tips, lancing through the giant ape and sending it crashing to the ground once more.

But how long would it stay down, this time?

It was rather clear to Fie that this could quickly get tiresome, especially if they were attacked again.

He stepped towards the now still Udrafresk, and knelt down. Even if it did seem to regenerate like mad, it'd be a good idea to make sure it didn't check out for good on them.

Healing check

Jade flicked her sword to clean it and slung it on her back.

"That was exciting." she said offhandedly, looking down at the cut and bruised udrafresk in front of her. "You alright there, Caspin?" she added, turning her head. Wizards were fragile sorts in her experience. The udrafresk had very probably caused the blue mage's entire chest to cave in judging by the whallop it had given him.

But he was still vertical so he'd probably be fine.

Stepping forward she grabbed her twisted up skirt and balled it up. She tossed it to Argath. "Alright, you tie it up." she told her fellow Viera. "I'm going to find something to drag it with." She flicked her eyes over to Vera, the only remaining tall person who was not Caspin. "Come give me a hand, Vera."

"Prasad, keep an eye on the udra-thing, would you?" she asked the moogle.

And then there was the rest. "The rest of you... do whatever it is wizards do, I guess." Jade finished lamely. It probably involved lots of talking and being short.

She stalked off, intending to find anything that could ease the transportation of the fiend.
