Tears of the Scions

Howdy! Some of you may recall a thread years ago by the same title. That's because it's the same author and comic :3:

Let me tell you what to expect: I'm new to making sprite comics, but not THAT new, so I won't fall into the typical pitfalls that newbies descend into (two-color backgrounds, millions of typos, etc). My comic was inspired by Fortuna Saga, an awesome comic based on FF 6 sprites, thus my own uses sprites from that game as well, some edited and some brand new, with pictures as backgrounds.

The comic contains some mature situations, violence, and occasional foul language. If you're younger than 13 I don't recommend you read it. Seriously.

Without further ado, here's the first pages. Enjoy!

Comic 1

Comic 2

Comic 3

Comic 4

Comic 5

Comic 6

Comic 7

Comic 8

If you have any comments or criticisms, please, don't hesitate to post :)

When do we get to the PG-13 stuff?

Cerulean 01-05-2011 10:26 AM

I'm glad you asked, phil! The answer is: on comic 5. So very, very soon.

By the way, since I have you here, and you're the first poster in my thread, would you mind giving me your take on my comic, thus far? I'm interested in what people think; it's my first comic, so yeah, I kinda need feedback.

Also, I'm about to upload comic #4. Enjoy!

Comic 5 is here, in which things get very messy indeed, and the pg-13 deal kicks in.

Well, it looks pretty enough for a sprite comic. My only real issue is how the two characters met, Long-hair guy said "You work for me now," and Kaen just went with it.

And then kept going with it.

It's just a bit odd. People don't tend to take jobs from fleeing men, even if their occupation is body guard. He must really be into his work, I guess.

Thanks for the comment. And I agree with you! It's pretty silly of Kaen to have kept going. Part of it is the madness of the situation (the "train" moves so fast that by the time you wanna jump off it's too late). Another part of it is Kaen's motives/personality, which will be explained in due time :)

I hope that clears that up and doesn't sound like a lame excuse to save my ass :ohdear: :D

There is only one hard, fast, and unbreakable concrete rule that I know of, when writing anything for anyone other than yourself...

Have a killer hook. If a person doesn't care what's going on by the first page, they're not going to turn to the second page.

Yeah, that's where it's at. The better the hook, the easier for people to stay around and keep reading.

The question is, then, if the first page of my comic does that, or how well. I mean, I went for a massive in-media-res deal, but how "hooky" it is is up to debate.

In any case, thanks for the input :)

Comic 6 is up! If you were hoping for the Rabbit Hole to end soon, sorry, wait another strip or so ;)

Here we have comic 7, where a very peculiar deal is explained, and Kaen gets more than what he expected to get...

Comic 7
