So... huh.... how do you guys make your gadgets turn on when you turn the PC on? I'm new to Win 7, still didn't manage to do that...

My gadgets appear a soon as my PC is on, I don't have to select an option or anything :/. did you change something? disabled something from the startup programs or anything that you changed.

No, it's like that since i got it. I can put them on, i have them, i even installed a couple of new ones i thought were neat. But they are not there when i turn the pc on

I just formatted my laptop and did a clean install of Win7 so, the gadgets should work in your PC :/. Maybe the gadget thingy was removed from startup. Get a program that has a utility that can manage your startup programs (this one's free) and see if sidebar.exe is disabled or missing.

Contrary to appearance I am a digital litterbug, the only thing about this is that I have everything either crammed into a toolbar or the home folder.

Also Ubuntu is for awesome people, I don't need to stare at my toolbars all the time, because I can make them appear at my command.

I'd get up a screenshot of my Windows XP boot, but it's mostly a clutter of pre-installed stuff since I only use it for DDO and (soon enough) Minecraft.

Two more.

Eh, Ubuntu is okay. I got tired of it. It has a lot of good points, but the compatability issues mean a lot of fucking around if you're into lots of unsupported stuff.

Windows has been able to do this forever.

Anyway, every OS sucks.

But the Ouroboros seal is pretty great, too.

I figured for me this one is a classic, since many of you know my love for the Beatles.

I like keeping my desktop clean and put all my icons in the task bar. I usually leave important images or document on my desktop to remind me of my next upcoming project regarding school or beadspriting. Thus, there was a Stevie Wonder pic on my desktop has been lying there for a while; I intend to make a sprite image out of it as a present for my mother on her birthday.

Apparently TinyPic auto-resizes, so I don't have to use a swap. :D

No, really, why? 99% of the time if you are going to read a PDF you are going to double click it or it will open in a browser window automatically ... it's a space waster!

1) Rainmeter -- It's actually easy to customize once you get it, but there are lots of "skins" (they're actually just .ini files that define fonts, colors, and what gets drawn) available, too. I made mine the other night after stealing the clock and font from an existing skin.

I'll be tweaking that off and on as time goes. There are some neat setups folks have made where they blend the Rainmeter aspects into the wallpaper, but I change mine often enough that I wanted something simple that could work with most anything. I think I will extend it to be a bar that goes across the bottom or maybe turn it into a sidebar thing.


2) Rounded edges? I'm guessing you mean the taskbar in my old Windows desktop, currently seen in the Arrakis link? That's Windowblinds skinning XP, as I have never been a fan of the huge window border and titlebar sizes in XP. It's one of Stardock's own "Aero" themes.

Technically the taskbar still extends to the edge of the screen but is transparent at the edges to give that effect [i.e. if you could somehow stick something on your desktop up in that corner you'd just click the taskbar any time you tried to click it].


Viridis, what are you running there for those icon groups?

Folks are just puttin' it out there for all to see, though. ;)

On a related note: I once pranked someone by taking a screenshot of their desktop, then removing their start menu and icons, setting the screen-shot as their background. Easy and fun.
