Fallout: Nuka Break

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know my Fallout fan film that Brian helped write is online!

Let me know what you guys think!

My unbiased opinion is that it's pretty darn good.

The Good:
-Twig and Ben both seem like fun, likeable characters. Twig's addiction to Nuka Cola, if not taken too far, is humorous.
-Effects were spectacular considering it was a fan-made video. A few nice bullet ricochets here and there avoided the common indy video problem of obvious nerf guns.
-Costumes seemed realistic for the series. Particularly a decent looking ghoul mask and vault uniform.
-The interjection by Ben's narration of a slideshow to build a tiny bit of background for Twig was entertaining

The Bad:
-Overall, acting was lacking, and I think a lot of jokes that looked good on paper suffered from poor performance on-stage.
-Scarlet's character seemed very generic.
-The Scene with Red and the other bounty hunters seemed a bit pointlessly drawn out.
-Ben's voice could have been a bit scratchier. Having played all of fallout 3 and New Vegas, I don't think I've ever heard a ghoul speak as smoothly as he does.

If you were to do it again:
-Make scarlet a tiny bit less generic. I think part of the problem here was that she only got a couple of lines and none of them were very character-ish in any particular way. She felt like an extra.
-Try and cut the dialogue down to bare-bones. It seems like a lot of the jokes, while funny in principal and concept, lose their impact to being overly wordy.
- Have Ben try to talk like a dying vulture.

As a stand-alone video, it seemed a little weak, but perhaps if a few tweaks were made it could be a good pilot for a web-series?

Was pretty sweet.

In regards to Ben's voice, I didn't really mind. I haven't played New Vegas yet, but Fallout 3 has all the ghouls voiced by exactly one person per gender.

I was gonna post in here when it was released, but then I didn't.

ANYWAY, I actually really enjoyed this and would like to see much more stuff out of you guys in the same vein as this. It's good to see the comic script writing translates well to movie script writing.

I didn't really have any problem at all with the acting. I mean, they got Vic Mignogna (orwtfeverit'sspelled) in there, and Zack et. al. didn't sound out of place being opposite of him. There might have been a few moments that were a little unpolished, but it came off far better than I would have expected from a fan film.

I think that was the joke. Well, part of the joke.

I'm pretty sure I've heard a few speak as smoothly as all that in FO1 and 2. New Vegas didn't have many speaking ghouls that I remember, though.

Absolutely loved it, the girlfriend thought it was cute as well.
For what it is I thought the acting and jokes were spot on. Please, do make more.

And I know this is slightly off topic but why does no one in the Fallout universe ever think of building a bike? Fast traveling.

Bright in New vegas...?

I really love it, there was a over the top cheesyness that it was just playfull and fun. I really liked the actors here and the script was simple and fun to watch.

Also, Zack really has his own pace, he seems pretty natural

Butterball... heh.

Pip Boy 02-04-2011 12:16 PM

I still really liked it, I was just being super nitpicky when I wrote that. Definitely a lot more than anyone expects from a fan-film.
