Upcoming Cons!
NYCC opened up preregistration recently. Wanted to let everyone know that they're only selling 4-day passes to the first 10,000 people. Rumors are you'll get to meet some of the celebs beforehand.
Also preregistered for Connecticon, which is selling at an earlybird price. Hope I get to meet some more of you there. In my opinion Connecticon has been the most fun of them all. I remember when Comic Con used to be able to fit inside a hotel lobby, now it takes up not half but the entire Javits Center. It's just too packed. It took me nearly twenty minutes to walk from one end to the other since they combined Anime Fest with it. The panels at Connecticon are also not as serious bizness as NYCC. UberCon was a disappointment. It ended up being a small gaming event/LAN party at a Holiday Inn Express in central Jersey. What have been some of your favorite Cons? |
I've only ever been to Fan Expo, and I went in 2009 and 2010. Had an amazing time on both visits, and eagerly awaiting Fan Expo 2011.
Sometime, hopefully, when I can scrape up both the financials and free time, I plan on going to a Con in the US. I have been invited to PAX East but...I don't think I can afford it right now. |
If you live around Ohio, Con on the Cob is pretty rad. It's small and run by some great people. Generally just an all around good time.

Sakura Con should be coming up in Seattle, if memory serves. Thanks for the reminder. I'll look up the dates and schedules.
Here we go. |
If anyone is in the area of Montreal at the beginning of March (March 5th and 6th to be more precise), the 2nd annual GeekFest will be taking place at the UQAM science center downtown. I'll be going there to sell some of the sprites I've been making (will post a pic in the arts thread in a few minutes to show exactly what I'm doing). It would be nice to see/meet some of you there if you're in the area!
I've also been to Otakuthon briefly last summer to help my boyfriend carry all of his sprites as well. It's a pretty big con, maybe a few of you have heard about it before. |
Anyone planning to attend Sakuracon this year? I might be going with my school's anime club. Would be cool to meet some fellow NPFers in person to see if any of you crazies really exist, or if you're transient internet intelligences.
|
Anyone on the eastern seaboard should come to The Steampunk World Fair in Piscataway, NJ. It kicked ass last year and promises to be even larger this year.
|
As mentioned before, I might hit SC, but it largely depends on my timeline. I'll have to review what my college is up to at that point. Might or might not have the time off, but I might also need to study. We'll see. Thus far, I'm planning on going.

Goimg to SDCC again this year, tickets sold out in 24hrs (new record). it's always really fun, but the sign up is always a pain. What's Connecticon like? |
I'm not sure what my schedule will be like then (aka if I'll still be working weekends) but I will definitely be at 1 or more of the days of NYCC.
