INCIDENTALLY

It occurs to me that I have actually done KIND OF A SHITTY JOB up til now of communicating when exactly creative/survival switchovers will occur. I am gonna try to do better about indicating this to you guys so you can plan your minecrafting schedule and not like, jump on thinking you are gonna finish that super-rad project you were doing and then can't. Henceforth the time of planned switchovers will be indicated in the OP.

As it stands I am thinking of making Creative mode our like, Sunday thing and then the rest of the week is our good ol' survival Multiverse. I feel like one day a week is reasonable cause it's a good solid weekend day and I mean you can go pretty HOSHIT CRAZY with /give in a day.

Once again I realize this is not an optimal experience for you guys and all I can say is that it is not optimal for me either! I would love to be able to serve up both versions of the server for you simultaneously but that is just not a thing I can reasonably do at any decent standard of reliability.

Yes, running a server is hard and it takes computer resources and internet bandwidth. It's lots of fun though. I wish I had access to the everything to get a dedicated server with its own internet connection setup and running.

I feel like this is a good a time as any to go into the running of the server.

Fiendcraft (TEE EMM) is currently powered by Minecraftserverhost.com for the HEFTY SUM of thirty dollars a month, by way of their Iron plan ensuring access to the tune of one point oh guaranteed gigabytes of allocated memory.

I had actually been looking into minecraft hosting on and off for some time but had intended to run it off my own home connection for a while at least while I got used to the ins and outs of minecraft server management, but when 2 out of 3 people couldn't even log in on that version of the server I was like "fuck this".

Of all the various minecraft hosts I looked at MCSH had the lowest price of anyone with any reasonable claim to reliability in serving the wacky wonky memory-feasting minecraft_server.jar that I have come to know and love. I actually had in mind the vague notion that it would be possible to run two servers at once off the same connection (since the plan I got ostensibly covers up to 15 players at once) but I was RAPIDLY DISABUSED of this notion because again minecraft loves dat memory so the only realistic option would be to get another server. If Fiendcraft ever becomes like an ultra-popular juggernaut of minecraft-lovin' people then I would actually probably consider it because I mean, I spend more money on stupider things, but for now given current levels of activity it's not something I can justify.

Anyway just some shit I haven't explained yet in any particular way that I thought I should

As much as people will NOT SETTLE DOWN about the dang TNT, this is emphatically true.

The SECRET ORIGIN of Fiendcraft is that I thought it would be awesome to be like HEY NESS I WILL PAY THIRTY DOLLARS A MONTH AND GIVE YOU A SERVER THAT RUNS GOOD ALL THE TIME HOW ABOUT THAT SHIT MAN but on the very first test map I ever set up Bitvyper immediately started building awesome shit and I was like, god dammit. I have found this is a RECURRING THEME, every map is disposable right up until someone builds that one totally rad thing there that I would feel terrible getting rid of.

Actually the current suite of available plugins is almost to the point in terms of functionality/reliability that I think it might be possible to run Nessworld / NPF city / whatever you guys were callin' all that as part of the current multiverse and just fuckin' set you up with server-side access so you can run the thing. There are still a couple bugs (namely the multiworld respawn bug) that have kept me from bringing it up before now. ID even K how you'd feel about that or even how close you are to gettin' your home server running again, but I mean think about it.

I know you were talking to other people too, but I'd like to emphasize that I was just idly complaining and that I extremely appreciate you hosting the server and junk.

Fifthfiend 02-21-2011 09:12 PM

I would say I wasn't speaking to anyone in particular but the actual truth is that I was totally 100% speaking directly to Magmarashi who I had seen in the server logs complaining about how he was all set to work on some project on the other server that he was right in the middle of because like Sunday was his day off or somesuch. And I was like - well that is actually a totally reasonable thing to complain about and, in point of fact, I would be just as upset in his position! So I thought I should do a post explaining that I recognize that this does kind of suck and at least wouldn't be as much of a thing if I were clearer about the schedule by which we are doing things.
