The wasteland is a cruel mistress. Every day the sun bakes the dunes hotter than a blacksmith's forge. Every night the moon hangs in a frigid sky, cold as a miser's heart. But I endure.

My home is a modest one, built into the ruins of a trading outpost from older days, when the desert was still green and plentiful.

Within its walls are all the resources I need to survive. Sweet water, fresh food, and a forge for basic repairs.

There used to be many like myself here, before they were claimed by Azrael. Sometimes it was old age, or disease, or mishap. Most often it was the desert.

But this land was not always so cruel. Many ages ago, it was lush and green, and within its borders there nestled a mighty empire. Its cities gleamed with bright towers and glittering spires, and its rulers grew rich on the bounty of the land and the tribute of their neighbors. But the luxuries of the flesh led to rot of the soul. The nobles grew fat and drunk while their subjects wasted in the streets.

Into this empire was born a mage, gifted with great powers and a greater lust for destruction. His machinations would serve to cast what remained of the empire into oblivion. The rest of the world would have quickly followed had he not been defeated by a desperate band of heroes, the last survivors of the old kingdom. But that was not all. Long after the last breath of life had passed his lips, his corruption lingered in the earth, draining it of all life save for the monsters who still lurk among the dunes.

The stories tell that should his resting place be disturbed, the mage will rise again and wreak untold destruction on the world of man. Nowadays, most scoff at these tales and dismiss them as superstition. But not me. For a thousand years my kin have guarded this desert, culling its beasts and shepherding travelers to safer lands. And for a thousand years, there has been peace.

(Sorry I haven't been on in a while, that might change though, Verifiedz is staying at my house for the next 2 weeks or so and we might head onto the server to kill time. It's awesome that the multi-world plugin is getting back into action, thanks a ton for being great at staying on top of this stuff, Fifth!)

A NOTE ABOUT PORTALS

Decided to go back to only ops bein' able to create portals. It seemed like portals were gonna become the like common mode of intraworld transport and I didn't really think that was a good thing to have happen.

IF YOU GOT A PORTAL YOU WANT TO PORTAL SOMEWHERES, let an admin know where you're putting up a portal marker and have 'em come do THE ANSCIENT MAGICKCKS that open a DOOR THROUGH THE DIMENSCIONS.

Portals should GENERALLY be used for inter-world travel, like arcanos - necromunda - terra etc, but intraworld, ie terra->terra transit, may also be okayed probably on a case by case basis.
