How long does it take you all to actually build all that stuff?

Go look for my first post in this thread.

Now come back and see the T-Tower on the flying island.

Also look at that wooden shack and realize that under it is the setting for Zork, essentially.

Also realize that I'm in the process of furnishing the T-Tower with an actual throne room and hollowing out the basement to serve a purpose.

All that time up until NOW was spent doing those things.

The "skybox" must have taken a few days, but around an actual 8 or so hours of game time. Though I admit that a lot of that time was me bullshitting around while waiting for the next batch of glass/stone. The coal is easy to come across if you obsessively strip mine just above bedrock.

GUI just means graphic user interface! Like, anything you would run in a windows window, with buttons and menus, instead of something you run from a command line.

It is pretty simple; in MCMap GUI, either pick your singerplayer save from the menu (it should be able to autofind them) or place the path to your map in the custom window. Set whichever you like of the various options, or don't set any of them since you can generate a perfectly nice render using the defaults, then hit start! The map will be generated in the mcmap folder under the name output.png.

ah, good, but all of the file types I dont recognize. What file do I run, and on what?

...Man, it took me like nearly eight hours of playing Minecraft to just like dig a hole in the ground and try to halfassedly make a house out of it that one time I played when Minecraft was free.

Run mcmapgui.exe.

Give it the path/name of any folder that contains a file named "level.dat".

The thing with minecraft is to get pro at putting together your basic tools/workshop/mine, then you can go nuts.

That and of course shamelessly ripping off other people's ideas. But that's not so much the rule for minecraft as for... everything, ever.

If you ever decide to give it a go Fiendcraft is probably a pretty forgiving beginner's environment just due to the main world's no monsters / constant daylight, along with my extremely lax adminning policies and the fairly decent number of helpful players.

ah I see, I downloaded the wrong file, working fine now, thanks

Thanks for the offer, but I really do think Minecraft is exactly the one kind of game I cannot afford to get into, at any and all costs.

Like, I can handle most videogames so long as I budget them out in short spurts, and force myself to give up for the day as soon as I reach the conclusion of the next mission, or the next chapter. Even long RPGs can be parceled out effectively.

Then there's something like Minecraft, where I'd imagine I'd start playing and then 24 hours later I'd finally realize that I should probably eat or sleep sometime, before remembering that in fact I've missed three classes and an assignment or two along the way to building my perfect paradise.

...And then some troll would start a wildfire and destroy my paradise in a matter of milliseconds.

And it is actually 4 days later

Also, the Zero Punctuation of Minecraft is pretty much all 100% true and the only one of Yahtzee's videos that I completely agree with for a game I love

Server went down for about a minute and a half, just now. It's back up.

/home and /sethome SHOULD be working again, however bugs may crop up related to either of those OR to /spawn, please report any such bugs you encounter.
