I am become Thadius, destroyer of Planetoids.
So after watching these guys doing what they do best to their planetoid map, I decided to click the link in the description.
http://i52.tinypic.com/2hdtr81.jpg Two attempts later, I found myself faced with a similar amount of planets that they were facing. This should be a thing on the Fifthfiend Multiverse. Who's with me on this one? The only current issues with this idea are twofold: First, it was made for the 1.3 version, meaning it has to be converted to be compatible with the saving system. Fortunately, at least on single-player mode, the game does it for you. No idea if it works like that on Multiplayer, but if not, I could easily be a provider of a map once I make simple dirt bridges to outlying planetoids. Do NOT want to end up with lots of people being incapable of destroying anything due to spawn protection. Secondly, as far as I can tell, the following things will never be spawned: Lapis Lazuli Mossy Cobblestone Dungeons Netherrack Soul Sand Reeds This probably means quite a few strikes against this idea, but Fifth could cheat up one reed and then we could make a farm and then there would be no problem. As for the Lapis...Well, there you have me. BUT. The person who made the map generator will indeed continue to work on it, so HOPEFULLY there will be a future version with Lapis. However, as is? It's still a pretty awesome concept. |
be like having an asteriod field, might be a fun alternative to normal resource mining
on a related note, any clue how they are managing voice chat? |
Oh man yeah, I've been considering trying something with that customized world generator for ages now.
AEROZORD, sorry about the holdup on your portal, I tried to set it up earlier but the portal plugin isn't working right for reasons I haven't figured out yet. |
I don't know if this is happening for anyone else, but for the last few days, the world is only loading like right around where I spawn. If I walk anywhere else outside of the like ~50 block radius that is loaded, I just fall forever and then pop back to where I was.
Also, planetoids looks AWESOME. |
Hey, if you guys are considering a unique map like that, have you consider a secondary "forlolz" server where everybody playes around with unique maps and mods?
Cause, this asteroid map would go really well with the Airship or Airplane mods |
The planetoids maptype isn't really something I could see doing too well without manually assigning planets and stuff. I'm playing it singleplayer and most of the fun comes from being able to stripmine entire planets hoping one of them contains what you're looking for - if you had 10+ people doing the same thing, you'd run out of resources REALLY fast.
I mean, I'd love to see what some of you guys do with your planetoids but it would mean MASSIVE travel times universally. |

I'd like an asteroid version that was more advanced, like actually looking like pieces of terrain ripped out of the ground by an arcane force (example: Angel Island). Also the lack of resources is a good thing because when you have terrain like that you don't want it to be swiss-cheesed by an obsessive miner. It would serve nicely as a bring-your-stuff-and-build-but-don't-actively-mine type of map.

But then you got guys like Pip Boy who go gaga over TNT...

Incidently they have three options, water under you, open air, or lava |
