Discussion over it is really moot at this point, it is getting removed because it was a bug and not a feature. There are people geniunly outraged by this and I don't really understand why, since it was never a secret that 1) it was a bug and 2) he was removing it eventually.

Don't..really understand the attitude over it. Sorry I see it differently.

I mean you're kind of just going it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug it was a bug

...and I mean okay, sure, it was a "bug"... that has hugely improved the experience of the game for many people, while being utterly unharmful to everybody else.

"BUT IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG IT WAS A BUG"

Yes, but generally the reason "bugs" are a bad thing is because they, you know, cause detrimental effects in ways that are not good so, given that this "bug" is, actually, beneficial, it's actually very, very easy to understand why many people would want it kept in the game.

Like... ladybugs are a bug? But if I see a ladybug

I don't say "OH GOD A BUG KILL THE BUG IT IS A BUG". I say "Oh hey it is a ladybug, IE a totally rad, excellent kind of bug!"

The problem isn't that you "see things differently" - it's that you're ignoring the content of the objection being made, while repeatedly claiming that you "can't understand" it. Which is a bit frustrating and, dare I say it, an insistence that I personally do not really understand!

And yes, Notch has said continually he would fix the "bug". He has indeed repeatedly stated his intention of undertaking an action that many people object to. That... really isn't a reason why it would be any less objectionable.

I mean if we're talking about outrage, there are certainly many people on the minecraft forums who were furiously, curse-and-insult-flingingly angry... at anyone who objects to the removal of cart boosters. Haven't really seen anyone "outraged" by the removal of cart boosters, at least no more than I was in my initial post on the topic, which is to say, not really at all.

Maybe the term Exploit is more accurate then Bug to describe what this is, then.

Either way, whatever. I don't think it's such a big damn deal to get so worked up over. It is a little off putting

Arhra 05-13-2011 08:04 AM

OH MY GOD NO BOOSTERS?! WHAT IS HAPPENING?! I AM SO WORKED UP!!!

Although I won't mind so much if Notch gives the power rails a bit more oomph.

Shyria Dracnoir 05-13-2011 10:28 AM

So, what the hell are we talking about again?

Its because
A) it was cheap.
B) it was easy.
C) it was effective.
D) it has been around forever and has a ton of systems based on it

Marc v4.0 05-13-2011 11:02 AM

E) As soon as he found out about it, he said it was going to get removed. If you based your system off something with a countdown timer on it, it isn't His fault.

Melfice 05-13-2011 11:10 AM

I'm not sure if this was noted, but I believe he said he's also upping the power on the Booster rails.
I can see where people are annoyed over this, but the booster rails are a far more elegant option. Especially if they get a power-up now.

He later accepted it, then recently he turned around and did said he was removing it.

The only way the Rails can replace the REAL thing is if they are just as effective.

actually they would have to be more effective since they are more expensive.

I don't think "I'll leave these in until I put real powered rails in" counts as accepting it. I believe that only lends credence to Mark's arguement.
