The 'All about me thread' thread!

Wow I have not been around for a while... um, again.

I guess I don't usually do the hyper-dramatic 'I'm done with this place!' 'now I'm back in this place!' threads, but I do tend to disappear for extended amounts of time only to quietly reappear after deep personal transformations (one time I got married! True story!).

Anyway, I figured I'd go the friendly but borderline narcissistic path and have a 'hello me' thread where I tell you what I've been up to, and you tell me what I've missed since I've been away!

So to start, I'm in a different department at work now. I work a 8am-5pm like a regular person now, and to be honest I still kind of hate my job but these hours are pretty nice. Tiffany was trying to get into a dental hygiene program for school but it looks like that may not happen so we're trying to figure out what else she can do with an AS degree.

Entertainment wise I've been playing some games - Donkey Kong Returns, Portal 2 (which is fantastic), plus everything I've been trying to catch up on like DC Universe, Valkyria Chronicles, and no I still haven't beat Final Fantasy XIII. TV progrums I've been enjoying include Venture Bros. (first time watching this through, pretty fantastic) Community, and of course Doctor Who.

One exciting thing that I'd be happy to get your input on is that I may soon be entering the world of video game retail - Me and a close friend are planning on starting a small business selling new and used games. We're going to start slow with a small amount of savings and see if we can make it grow by selling online until we can support a store front somewhere locally.

So what's up with you guys? Anybody ban that Shiney guy yet? Tell me! I'm interested!

I don't have much patience for people who complain about their jobs now that I started teaching. Unless you're digging ditches or getting shot at or something...are you? 'Cause that would be cool to hear about (sorta in that it would suck for you but entertain the rest of us...)!

If you start an online business selling games, link it up, I'd try it if you have some good prices or something (or cheap shipping? Something to set you apart, you gotta undercut all those other online retailers).

Funny as I hear that teachers are all a bunch of lazy fat-cat union supported something-somethings.

I keed I keed! What are you teaching?

Krylo 04-29-2011 08:43 PM

At least in Hardware stores. They all know more than you, but still need your help.

Customer service jobs are just like teaching, except that you have to pretend that the students know more than you and you're not allowed to give them detention, or tell them to quiet down, and, indeed, have to give in to their every inane request.

But nah, teaching would suck unless you really liked kids, and also crushing government legislation, and also hopelessness.*

BUT ON TOPIC: Welcome back Nique. Last time you had one of these life changing things you turned into basically the coolest motherfucker up in this bizness. Here's hoping that didn't change.

Also: I demand a job at your video game store. I have all kinds of customer service experience.

*So just like customer service, but with more hopelessness and less legislation.

Well, hello-to-you-too and thanks for the welcome! Chalk it up to growing up and still being a total geek.

English. To ninth graders, for the most part. Yeah...I get a lot of :crying: on a regular basis.

The two classes of seniors are way more rewarding, they are reading Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, etc. which have more substance to them than the book the ninth graders are reading (Speak, which is good at their age, hopefully it discourages them from raping people or putting themselves into situations where they can get raped...but it's not high literature) and are more willing to listen/learn.

Luckily I'm a masochist! So it works out fine!

Yes Nique you must give everyone on this forum jobs at your store. The only one who can help the economy...is YOU.

Yay Nique! I remember you. There was that time with that thing with that guy. . .okay the details are vague. But I'm thrilled to see you. Thrilled I say.

Teaching university students is the best because if they give you shit you can just throw them out and you don't really have to care if they fail

You are the reason that I simultaneously love and hate academia.

I'm heading down to Madison, WI to do some work on the synchrotron there sometime in late May, early June. Yay!
