Found Obsidian today, made the skull needed to mine meteorites or whatever. Now if only a meteor actually fell...

Eye of Cthulhu showed up, and has basically been a pain in the arse since. Tried to fight him, but I either die before I kill him, or morning comes and he just bails. Probably gonna try and fight him again today.

Is this game fun/worth buying? The combat looked very not-good, in the demos.

I wouldn't say the combat is phenomenal or awe-inspiring but in a sandbox game of this nature it's not really why you play the game. I will say that I personally find the combat refreshingly superior compared to, say, Minecraft, which despite being the objectively more influential game felt more hollow to me in that area.

The difference between Terraria and Minecraft for me so far has been the root of my sense of accomplishment. In Minecraft, surviving the first night was a huge deal, but then all my sense of awe more or less exclusively came from building things. In Terraria, I haven't been nearly as interested in building wonders of the world, but I've enjoyed adventuring a lot more. Combat's a part of that picture, but the main thrill has been finding all kinds of treasure chests, artifacts, better minerals to mine and corrupted areas to restore. In Terraria there's a greater sense of you gradually growing stronger and more capable compared to Minecraft, which adds a bit to the fun.

This. So much.

So, I have steam, and a friend who says he'll get me any game I want for it. Should I go for this?

Melfice 05-21-2011 01:54 PM

So, question.
I built a little shack to spend the night in, but had to quit halfway through the night (literally and in-game).

When I loaded up the game again this morning, I was outside and immediately, and repeatedly raped* by four zombies and two flying eyeballs.

Does this game not save the location where you were when you log out, or did I run into some sort of bug, or something?
'Cause, damn.

* Apologies to anybody who may be offended. But this is the only way to accurately describe dying three times in a row until sunrise, because I kept being spawn-killed.

It reloads you at your spawn point. You can change the spawn by making a bed and using it in a safe building on the surface

If there's no price cap you should go for something like Portal 2 or Deus Ex: HR. Just for being economical. I'm torn on this, from what I've been keeping up with hear it sounds like a lot of fun. But everything I see in LP's make the game seem less fun than it sounds from here. WHAT SHOULD I DOOOOOOO!?!?!?!

Roll a die!
1-3 is a buy.
4-6 is you staying away from the game.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
