I mean we have like two venues for mod complaints.
e: and I don't think I've ever banned anybody for bein' a jerk back to me when I'm a jerk to them first. e2: even when they made threads dedicated to how horrible a person I am. e3: That's a gaming convention. e4: Fuck y'alls, made a thread for this shit. |

...Wait, that came out wrong. I guess we should limit our responses to this thread, huh? In other news, the X-Box is a hunka junk.(tm) Guess everyone should buy a Wii? |
So, most of you seem to think "hey those exPS3 users must feel really dumb now, the X360's hardware is just as bad as Sony's security" but, you're missing the part where you get a new top of the line console in case the update messes your old console, making it unable to read disks.
Also, IMHO "bricking" means "pretty much useless, or requires a huge effort to make it work again" so, I wouldn't call this disc reading problem "bricking". I mean, if I had to explain this update issue to someone, I'd just say "your console just won't be able to read discs" instead of "your console will get bricked". The mouse died, my computer is bricked analogy doesn't really work for me but, I got a nice example: My mom's phone SIM reading thing is faulty, it'll detect a SIM card for a while but, after a few mins, it'll say something like "insert SIM" or "SIM card not valid". This phone isn't reliable anymore as a phone, it's main function's gone (a phone's main function is to make and receive calls, among other things, using a cellular network), just like the affected X360s which can't read discs (it's main function is to play games, this console's main/most important games are on discs). Now, would you call my mom's phone a brick because it cannot use a cellular network to make calls and stuff? She can still play with it, listen to music, browse the internet, take photos and pretty much anything that doesn't involve a cellular network. This applies to the X360 as well, you can still play (downloadable) games andd do everything the X360 can do (sorry, I dunno all the stuff the X360 can do) that doesn't involve using discs. |
Between the victims getting a replacement unit, and the damaged units only losing the abilty to read discs (on average). I'd say 360's rep is largely untouched by this.
Heck a few of the people I told this to say it as a free hardware upgrade. |

I think that even Nintendo - who I don't believe have a network or any other kind of whatever - are on their best behavior and ready to offer reprimands if Pocahontas or whatever isn't there in the next Kingdom Hearts game. |
man this is what I miss by playing WoW, I guess
Everyone knows the Wii isn't really a contender in the 360/PS3 coverage of the market, anyway. Like, if you offered me a Wii for either of those I would probably try to find out when you were dropped on your head as a child.***
** just so folks don't get all miffed, this doesn't mean the console and its games are bad. They just don't, in my opinion, have anywhere near the same hold on a large portion of gamers. Also lol@, what, half of this thread? This thread is bricked. |
Haven't been following this thread much, since I don't have a 360 & was just passing the news on. As for the titlle, it pretty much short hand for the G4 article.
If the title was: Microsoft bricks 360 Disk Drive with update, it'd be pefectly accurate, and still convey the same message. You could also say that Microsoft Borks Disk Drive (with Update!) & still be equally correct. Sure, that message is a tad more harsh, but if you take issue with that, maybe your problem isn't about the accuracy, but the tone behind the message. Just thought I'd point it out. |
