Is dancing wrong at the TFJ Memorial?

In 2008, a group of about 20 D.C. residents gathered at the Jefferson Memorial for a silent midnight flash mob to celebrate the former president’s birthday.

Park police promptly ejected the group, with one officer telling them: “You are dancing in here! That’s disorderly!” A participant, Brooke Oberwetter, was arrested and held for several hours. Oberwetter later filed suit against the arresting officer.
That's not even the beginning of the issues.

Watch the video, watch what law enforcement does with the protestors. Then watch as 1600 people have signed up for a dance of in New York, Austin, and the TFJ Memorial this weekend.

I think these flash mobs are stupid, not a tit or dick in sight. Talk about giving flashing a bad name.

Also they're not very good at dancing, either.

All that aside, if they really want to "push the envelope" they need to dance at the Wall at the Vietnam War Memorial. If you're going to "destroy the solemnity" you need to do push it to the max.

I agree with most of what you said except one and that's the dancing at the Vietnam War Memorial. That place is dedicated to those who lost their lives in that conflict, some of them forced into a conflict we should of never fought. This also goes for the World War 2 Memorial and Iwo Jima Memorial as well.

If you want to dance horribly in mass, do it at a place where you won't disrespect the dead who died for others.

How does dancing disrespect anyone?

Remember when Black Mage was dancing on Fighter's grave in that guest comic?

I'm sure it was meant as a sign of respect and flattery. :P

If you go out to a memorial with banners saying "THOSE WHO THIS MEMORIAL IS DEDICATED TO SUCK" and shout slogans like "I'M DISRESPECTING ALL OVER THE PLACE" and then they dance "on their graves" then that's disrespecting. But if they just go there to dance I fail to see what is so disrespecting about that.

Also, even if it was disrespecting, should it automatically be forbidden because of that?

Rather, I only really cared for the first minute of reading the comments on Reddit.

I don't really have an opinion on the subject at hand, but I was just pointing out how it could be disrespectful.

I have to say given what I know of the man had Thomas Jefferson himself been witness to the authorities arresting folk for dancing he would have beaten the police with his cane.

I don't know, I saw at least one black man there.

I grew up respecting those who serve and still do. These are places meant to honor those who died in our name for the cause of the time (even if the cause was Nationalist garbage). Yes, I even honor those who served in Vietnam as they were put into a bad situation we had no business in if you look at the history.

Should it be illegal to dance there? No as dancing is Freedom of Expression, covered by the first amendment.

Should people dance at places like this? No and for the reasons I outlined above. These places are for HONORING our fallen soldiers who signed that blank check ALL Soldiers write out with their own lives so people have the right to dance or be complete idiots on Youtube if they want.

If you live near D.C. or get the chance to go. Go to those places and Arlington as well, especially the Tomb of the Unknowns and watch the Changing of the Guard. I got to when I was in 9th grade as part of a Class Field Trip.

Or, you can go to your local Military Cemetary in your state and attend a military funeral if there is one and see how much honor we try to put into our soldiers, dead before they can get old or who lived a long life and died old.

As I said before, I respect the men and women who serve in our military. I text my dad since I can now every year a "Happy Memorial Day" because he is also a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army. So yeah...Army Brat and proud of it!

Edit> Osterbaum, also...the Vietnam Memorial Wall is the only grave some of those names have as they haven't been brought back and may never be brought back for burial. Some of those are KIA/MIA and will remain so.
