Troy the Movie
When Ajax died in the first 30 minutes I knew something was definitely wrong.
I completely and utterly hated this movie. I was completely pumped up for it and even reread the Illiad. I expected it to be Hollywoodized and certain things and character taken out to fit in the two hour limit but that was completely horrid. But I was hoping at least there should be some cool battle scenes but realy the fighting was never ever that intense in the movie , the one on one fights were ok but the clashing of armies was just bland and boring. Brad Pitt was ok as Achilles, but he's no action hero. The movies did a decent job but Achilles look like a moody emotionally confused pussy, when in the Illiad he's still moody but a complete killing machine. He was supposed to be some great hero who's name would go down in history, but in the movie what exactly did he do that was worth remembering? He won and opening skirmish? Defeated Hector? That not a whole lot. I realize again that they had to really dumb the characters down because they think we're all stupid and do not posses the abilty to understand more than one complex character butdid they have to make them all so 1 dimensional... I expected Agememnon to start cackling and twisting his mustache yelling curses foiled again at some points. The Dialouge was that poor. And Paris doesn't die? What? This is the third movie I've seen on the subject that make him look like this wonderful person and a hero. What is the obession with make Paris a romantic hero? He so utterly pathetic in the movie and mythology. He steals a king's wife sets off a war. Is a coward and gets beaten down in one one combat. In the illiad he was scorned and mocked by his own people, but via hollywoodization he becomes a romantic hero who is just in love, pay no attention that his inability to keep his dick in his pants just caused 10000s of death including the death of his family and nation, he's in love. I'm glad he got away in the end because that's justice right? And Helen is supposed to be the most beautiful woman in history, yet I would argue she was only the third most attractive woman in the movie, Helen just looked very "slutty" and I hate to use that term. I know this is a rant but I reallly enjoyed the Illiad and this was just a sick bastardization. All those involved should be beaten throughly about the head and neck with reeds. The illiad and Trojan war could be a great movie or even Trilogy but we get this piece of cow dung... |
I havn't seen it myself, but my friend did. i think the funniest thing he described to me was the 'beachhead assult'. thats just hillarious.

At least you tried to leave out/hide spoilers (Sarcasm)
But the movie was correct on the Troy story for the first half (Sorta), then it just began to fall apart. The Paris thing did annoy me as well. In the book, he is a coward and a wimp. In this movie, he was that as well, but then they just had to make him go Legolas for no reason. And him killing Achilles... Achilles dies by poison when his back is turned, not by a pussy with four shots. And then Paris dies by poison. Also, the war took years, in this movie it took about three days (Excluding the days to build the horse, since nothing happened those days). Lastly, I would say Helen was the hottest in that movie. |
Sure, as a movie, it entertained me to a degree.
On the whole, I was unimpressed, though, and let down a bit. |
Well, the topic is clearly about "Troy the movie", so spoilers can be reasonably expected.
Anyhoo, it's strange. I saw only the trailer and some snippets of the movie in a feature on TV, and I instantly knew it was going to be the same lame-ass mixture of artificially inflated dialogue and huge battle scenes (to keep the people awake) with absolutely nothing of relevance behind it that made Lord of the Rings so thoroughly unenjoyable from The Two Towers on, including. Call me prejudiced, but everyone I've asked yet has confirmed it. ... rant en miniature, I notice... |
As a great fan of the book The Illiad I can now safely say I am not going to see this movie.
|
Im just not going to see the movie, because i dont want to.
WOOT! 300!! POSTS!!! |
Ok heres my list.
-Menelaus doesn't die, he takes Helen back to Sparta. -While Paris does kill Achilles, that's about the only good he did for the Trojan side. -Hector should have dragged Patroclus around Troy like he did in the story. -Did they Really have to kill Agamemnon? That ruined their chance at a sequel using the Eumenides. -So are they going to use the Aeneid for a direct sequel or the oddysey? They set up both. |
Hector dragged some one around Troy? The only dragging I remember was Achilles dragging Hectors body.
And you forgot that Paris dies. |
but the oddysey is very mythology based, but fom what I saw they movie didn't look mothology based.
and a poin the illiad isn't the story of troy it is the story of achilles the illiad is based in the 10th year of the war of troy and ends a few weeks later; without troy taken. edit: what hector did caused achilles to drag hectors body around. and I haven't read the illiad but I am reading it right now. |
