Catholic Mass Offers Comfort To Gays And Lesbians

Link

To be completely honest, I dun know if this story violates the "Ro Religious Discussion." rule, but I felt it was too good not to share. Hell, we've reached the consensus on the forum of how okay it is to be gay, and to serve in the military, and to get married. This is a story of how homsexuals are... well, it's in the title. It's essentially a human interest story, and I find it interesting how human we all are.

Quote:

The Rainbow Ministry of St. Cecilia’s Church opened its doors to nearly 700 people yesterday for a long-awaited Mass in support of gay and lesbian Catholics, capping a month of controversy over the Boston Archdiocese’s postponement of the service.

A standing-room-only crowd, larger than Easter Sunday’s, packed the pews to hear the Rev. John J. Unni’s characteristically fiery message of love, acceptance, and the forgiveness of sins.

Unni’s message, which encouraged the congregation to welcome outcasts as Jesus did 2,000 years ago, was similar to that of weeks past. The difference yesterday, parishioners said, was Unni’s courage to say those words during a Mass that has drawn so much vitriol as well as passionate support.

Being a straight person, I just have to ask, what is it with homosexuals being associated with rainbows all the time? Isn't choosing a symbol like that to identify with just going to reinforce a lot of negetive gay stereotypes?

What's negative about rainbows?

Kyanbu The Legend 07-12-2011 04:45 PM

Yeah Pip, Rainbows are awesome.

Especially the ones on fire. :)

Rainbows are made up of different colors, and because of that they're wonderful. It symbolizes how everyone doesn't have to be the same, and in fact the world may be the better for having different people in it.

Or how beautiful intermingling light should be harshly segregated into its individual groups.

Amake 07-12-2011 05:38 PM

Groups? Aren't the colors just different parts of the same spectrum?

At any rate we can hardly call it "harsh" segregation when sunlight mixes with rain. It's just a natural phenomenon. It's not our fault.

Professor Smarmiarty 07-12-2011 05:48 PM

So are you saying gays and straights, white and blacks aren't different parts of the same spectrum of humanity?

As for the "It's nature"- well that's certainly an argument homophobes use, yes.

I bet you Magneto likes rainbows

Why you be hating, Barrel?
