So have you heard about [insert game here]?

We find quite a few games in our daily adventures around the internet. We all don't have time for everyone and it's sad to see good games left by the wayside because our attention spans aren't infinite.

I'll try to find one good game a month that's a rare gem or something that's intriguing and comment on it here. Feel free to use your own games or talk about other games that you think might need some space.

Skull girls

Dunno if Non actually saw this in E3 but it's a unique fighting game based on a few unique premises that I haven't seen before.

The infinite detection allows you to get out of combo loops which is sorely needed in fighting games. It's why I won't touch MvC3. The ratio system seems pretty fair and balanced in concept. I would love to see it work though.

Other than that, the previews have me interested. Just wish it would come out on Steam as well. >_<

Exit Fate is probably one of the first RPG's of its combat style that I could really get into. Story is well written, dialogue is done excellently, there's implementation of strategy gameplay in leading armies, and the combat system has its own nice features (mana is generated over time, leftover MP is used for heals at end of each battle, option to avoid a random encounter by "bribing" a quarter of what you would have won from the battle).

Only real downsides are that it apparently takes music from various games including Chrono Trigger, some FF games and other sources, most of their original tracks are amazing (best final battle theme I have ever heard). Having never played any of those games I wasn't bothered by the music usage, since in almost all cases it fit the situation well (some town themes bothered me though.

It's free, so it's worth a look. Oh apparently there's a font issue that may occur, though I haven't gotten it with Exit Fate (still trying to get around it in Last Scenario, which is a different RPG from the same developers.)

I actually didn't check out Skull Girls. Mirai did. If I can find his article, I'll share it.

I recently got to check out an iPad/iPhone game called Contre Jour, which is charming and fun in a similar way to World of Goo. Black and white art style based on the photography technique of the same name and the classical music is nice, too. I think it releases later this summer?

Here's me being more verbose about it.

Firefall

Okay, just read the Escapist.

Here's the scoop on Firefall. Think about it as the MMO of Starcraft that hasn't come out yet. Seriously. The main guy that's working on this was working with Blizzard in the 90s. I've just signed up for the beta, so I'll tell you how the game plays. I really have no information at this current time.

I was always interested with Tabula Rasa, but when they made their game a subscription model it turned me off. Now that a bunch of games are going F2P, it's a lot easier to see if I like a game and would like to play it longer than a few days.

Note: update after my download... Also, if anyone else wants to beta test, they should try it out.

Oh yeah, I joined the forums for that months ago. But now that there's a beta I am totally trying it out.

Where is the beta at? It seems that Blizzard has yet again hit the nail on the head.

Jagos 07-15-2011 11:10 AM

Doc...

Not Blizzard. Red 5 Studios.

-E- Annd come to find out, I'm entirely wrong about the beta. I just saw the link up top, thought it would let me join, but it's not. Sorry for the confusion.

Bastion released today on XBLA, and you should all go buy it. Brilliant story, brilliant art, and brilliant gameplay.

BRILLIANT!

I'm not too far in (4 cores) and I wouldn't go as far as saying the gameplay is brilliant, but I agree with the rest. Definitely worth checking out for only 1200 MSP.

I just really like the combination of customizable builds and the freedom in weapon upgrades.
