Anime/Game conventions.

Am I the only non-American annoyed with the lack of conventions/events within other countries? I hear about all of these wonderful cosplay events in America and Japan, and yet NOTHING ever happens here in the UK. I'm sure there are plenty of online comic artists that are British that would be happy enough to join in a convention if the opportunity came along.

Why do you think that it isn't that big over here? Closest thing I got to was the Squaresoft European Tour a couple of years back. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough? Maybe I should set up a convention in my back yard! Comments welcome... =3

America is probably the second biggest consumer of Japanese anime/manga after Japan itself, so it makes sense that the publicized cons would take place there... Apart from that, given that cons cost a lot to set up and rely on a large (and rich) fan base to be successful, perhaps that would explain why Europe doesn't get many cons?

I find it rather aggravating myself that there are very few cons where I stay (as in: none), because I would love to go to one.

And Rai, if you did set up a con, I might pay the airfare to attend...

My garden is the size of...well, it ain't that big. Enough for a BBQ and a couple of seats. I'd probably only get the hardcore nerds of the area attend. XD

I wonder what it really would take to make a mini-convention. Someplace to host it and a whole lot of people who are actually 'famous' for something. I wonder if there are licenses needed for such a thing...

Probably. They might arrest you for an illegal gathering otherwise... especially if someone decided to cosplay...

But you could ask a university anime/manga club to organize one, and you solve hosting/publicity/attendance problems all at once.

You might be able to get Brian and Sosa they do those things alot.

As for why there aren't any I would have to say it is because America is a very culturally open nation (comments to yourselves). Also right now Japan is a big hit here. As for Japan, well its Japan.

The UK is a multi-national country. We have almost more Asian/Black people here that the usual White British citizens. It's not that we're not culturally open, it's that our Government SUCKS. And that the only place for most events is in London which is hellish to get to from most points of view.

I live in Canada but we only ever have a few conventions. But they are only ever in Toronto or Vancouver. I live more than 1000 kilometers away from both. It sucks. I have wads of cash yet nothing to buy.

What I don't understand is why people don't think 'Hey, those people up North can't get to us if we're down South'. Why don't they make it in the middle so it's easier for EVERYONE to get to?

videogamerz2000 05-25-2004 10:51 AM

Cause those people are idiots and go to the south where it's warmer. Talk about serious lack of adventure.

Playstation experience 2002
-and-
Playstation experience 2003

I proberly won't go this year, it was heaving last year I only got to play about 5 games.
