Spiderman!
SPIDERMAN! I'm excited. Are you excited? I'm excited.

When did spiderman become mirror's edge?

I'm excited that they're finally going to clear up how Spider-Man got his powers.
|
I was going to type up a thing about the problems in the trailer, but I think it's just easier to say it looks shitty.
|
is this one supposed to be in the same continuity as the avengers stuff?

I came out of that trailer with a resounding "meh".
|
Does anyone remember the Spiderman where he killed Mary Jane with his radioactive semen? Why can't we have a movie about that?
|
Quote:
...Well it would be different from the usual. |
That first person bit looked pretty... Bad. Like, out of a videogame, clearly CG.

In any case, I think it's kind of dumb, not only that they are doing the origin story again but then making changes to it to make it take up even more movie time. I seriously have no idea why they are rebooting this movie series. Just change the actor and have a brief psychedelic dream sequence explaining the origin (ala The Incredible Hulk) and then just come up with an original story starting there. No one needs to see Spidey hanging out in high school again or awkwardly dating Mary Jane or whatever the hell is in store for us. The whole thing just screams low-budget to me, as well. These actors are complete no-names as far as I can see. Apparently Tobey Macguire would cost too much at this point so they get some complete unknown. Also also, I hope to dear god the CGI in the trailer was just thrown in cheaply to illustrate to us that we are watching a Spider-Man trailer and not an example of the quality in the film itself, because it looked really cheap and exactly like I was watching the demo for a PS3 video game. EDIT: By the way, is the Vulture still the villain for this film or did they alter that since last I heard details? |
Doesn't look that impressive to be honest.
|
I'm also finding it hard to care about this one. Rebooting a series that is less than 10 years old, redoing the origin again (don't most people already know how Spidey gets his powers anyway? Why do we ned to see it again?), the complete lack of anything interesting going on in that trailer.
You know what this is don't you? This is them trying to deny Marvel the rights to the franchise so they can merge it with Avengers. The've thrown it together as quick as they can, with some no name actors and shitty cgi, just so they can make some more money off it because otherwise Marvel would just buy it back and make an actually decent movie that ties in with all their other movies. |
Hopefully they plan on just charging Marvel a crapload of money or partnership rights on proceeds or something since I'd love to see Spidey in the Avengers or Avengers 2 (even if traditionally he wasn't in the Avengers, I'm pretty sure in recent times he has been in it several times).
|
He's in the current lineup of the avengers as far as I know.

*pfft* Marc Webb. HA!

This movie has Martin Sheen, Sally Fields, Dennis Leary, Emma Stone, and Andrew Garfield! Someone's bound to recognize at least two of those names. And of course the CGI doesn't look 100% yet. The movie is coming out next year, they've still got time to work on it. And I'm gonna be in the minority on this, but I enjoyed the first person bit. I can't wait to see this trailer in 3D so I can get the feel of zipping through New York. And to whoever asked, yeah Peter's parents were SHIELD agents in the comics. So they're actually adapting that bit right. I'll admit, I think this movie has made a mistake in redoing the origin instead of skimming over it (ala Spectacular Spider-Man) but maybe it'll work to their benefit. From what I gleamed from the trailer, Peter is actually gonna look and act like an outcast. I never believed Tobey's performance as a nerd but Garfield looks like he can pull it off. |

Well, I'm glad to hear they didn't just make up the parents being SHIELD agents, but on the other hand I don't really like that, as I said, much like what they did with Batman's dad or Superman turning out to have various surviving Kryptonian people in the form of Kandorians. How did Macguire not pull off the nerd thing, by the way? He was incredibly soft-spoken and pretty flimsy looking (until he took his shirt off in that one scene) with a common everyday haircut, fairly plain face (in comparison to other movie actors). The new guy has a stylish hair-do and looks more like your more traditional pretty boy. EDIT: By the way my waffling is pretty pointless, I am going to go see this movie. I just hope it's not bad. |

I see Martin Sheen is playing Uncle Ben. Let me just tell you that he has become so unrecognizable since the '80s I had no idea, because his biggest role since then was on a TV show. TV actors simply don't have the same pull as movie actors. Actors may have once been B-List actors (despite your assertion I don't think Sheen was ever A-List) but they are shuffled down as time passes. Some actors are such great actors they command high amounts of money even into perpetuity. It's a cost-cutting measure to get Martin Sheen and so on. Again, didn't know he was playing Uncle Ben. But I seriously didn't recognize the other actors/actresses. |
Emma Stone was in zombieland, super bad and the rocker probably most noticeably. She done lots of teen type movies .
Also I don't see the complaints with the cast in your terms. Which superhero movie has had "A-list" actors? |
Spider-Man 1-3, The Dark Knight, Iron Man 1 and 2, etc.
How 'bout this? I hate the guy who is Spider-Man, I don't know who he is and he looks dumb. Forget I said anything about the supporting cast I won't be watching for the vast majority of the film. |
Those films are all stocked with B and C-listers. Lots of tv actors too.
Who would you cast as Spider-man out of interest? Also doesn't A list cast usually mean terrible movie? Cause it means they've got fuckloads of money and thus need to make the blandest most marketable fim possible to make back their budget. And the A-lsit actors are all pretty awful. I'm just not seeing how "I don't recognise the lead actor" is a valid complaint against a movie. |

Okay, how about this:
I dislike it for all the unspecified reasons the rest of you dislike it and didn't bother to write. EDIT: Yeah, sure, Fifth, Sally Field is just an American darling! Too bad she's been in three movies of note I didn't like twenty years ago. Again, I haven't been watching these prime time dramas which is why I didn't recognize Martin Sheen in the trailer, or this Sally Field lady. I've seen all three of her movies years ago, doesn't mean I'm supposed to automatically recognize her. |

Apology accepted. |

A) this movie has been made already and it doesn't look like it has any new spin on it B) It has incredibly terrible CGI effects C) Ridiculously stupid FPS section last seen in Doom D) This movie has already been made a million times in multiple media forms. |
Also why did it seem grimdark? Isn't Amazing Spider-Man supposed to be wise-cracking and such?
When he narrated in the trailer like "We all have secrets..." It might as well have been Marcus Fenix from Gears of War saying it, when I feel like ASM reply would be along the lines of "Mine is just more awesome wooooooooooooo!" |
We'd already covered those. Excuse me for trying to think up more reasons to hate on this thing!
Okay, how about this for another reason to hate on it: the Vulture is a stupid villain. |
Well we dont hae a lot to go on.l It's only a trailer.

Must have changed it since back when they came up with the reboot originally.
Hmm, hmm, how about this: Spider-Man's glasses in this film are no longer geek glasses per our current culture but have become ironic HYYYYYYPPPPPSST-TUR glasses especially in combination with his stylish hair-do and so he is actually in style in this film. |
And what's wrong with his faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace

Also, I could pull up a few threads where I was all like "Hey, Batman: Arkham Asylum looks like a great game!" and you're all like "Meh." Or the thing where I got the Dragon Age II demo and was like "This is shit." and you're all like "It's a demo. It's not the completed game, things are open to change." |
No, Seil! That is not how the Internet works. We decide on whether things suck long before they come out, with barely information at all about whatever it is we now hate.
Even if the movie does release and does well and makes lots of money and critics love it and we secretly love it, we still hate it and it sucks. |
There is literally no sin worse than forming preliminary judgments of things based on promotional materials created and released by the people making those things for the specific purpose of allowing people to form preliminary judgments about their things.
|
I saw a commercial for the yet-unreleased Captain America movie and thought, hey, I bet that movie's gonna be pretty boss.
Crucify and then burn me, bury my charred corpse in an unmarked grave. |
There's no Mary Jane in this movie. Emma Stone is playing Gwen Stacy.
|
I really enjoy the various comments I've seen saying how much she looks like Gwen, following the many comments I saw when she had red hair saying she looks like MJ, because really both are pretty much dead-on correct, because Emma Stone just looks a whole hell of a lot like female characters as drawn by John Romita Senior.
|
|
I don't care about the rest of this conversation.
...Martin Sheen was the Illusive Man.
|
Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, who cares? They already had the scene with Green Goblin on the bridge with Mary Jane instead, now they are going to do the Lizard with Gwen Stacy. Apparently the are completely interchangeable.
|
I had a talk about this with the guy the works at the local comic shop and we both agreed that the perfect way to open this movie is with Tobey and Kirtsen asking Mephisto to get rid of the events of Spider-Man 3. Cue opening credits.

I will say I don't like the look of the new Spiderman. But that is the only thing I can really say I don't like. The big question is if they can make us care about this new guy. I never was a big Spiderman person, but Peter Parker is one of the most liked comic heroes. Edit: For Fifth's pleasure This is a big image btw. |
Quote:
Which is playing the role of endangered love interest is dependent entirely upon the time frame. |
I thought MJ died because Spidey tried to catch her with his web, and snapped her neck?
And that heralded the end of the silver age of comics? |
That was Gwen. MJ is the one he married, and then demarried and aborted by making a deal with Satan.
Given comic books being comic books, you would be surprised at just how little Gwen Stacy has come back to life (one time, though she did sex up the Green Goblin and have kids with him). |

*Facepalm* So, the guy shows up to a panel drunk, got ballergerant, insulted just about everything there was there... Kind of makes me want to see the movie less now, because of that guy. |

Ironically, those both looked fairly entertaining! Sort of. In a fashion.
I believe the Captain America one was a television movie, as I remember watching it. The F4 one never got released if I remember correctly. |

There was a campaign sometime ago to get Don Glover (Troy from Community) to play Spiderman. This would be great for multiple reasons.
|
As Donald Glover put it, if you walked up to someone who had never heard of Spider-Man before and told them it was about a poor, bullied teenager from Queens, abandoned by his parents, who lives with his aunt and uncle, until his uncle gets shot in a carjacking, the first thing that pops to mind probably isn't "dorky white kid."
I mean COME ON! |
...In the early part of the trailer, it looked like he had webs coming from his hands without assistance (sticking to his hair by accident), but in the Mirror's Edge segment, it looked like he had an artificial web-thrower mounted on his left wrist.
So which is it? Organic webs or synthetic ones? |
I had a dream that this movie was amazing. I now have faith in it.

I think it's cool to add cultural diversity but this has me worried. This guy has no connection to Peter save for what they're gonna retcon. They had to have been planning his death for a while so they could have introduced this guy earlier. |
Because I'm a mean-ass bitter-ass cynical old man I'm going to say that if this guy lasts at least as many issues as Cassandra Cain's original series did plus one year, without going insane, turning evil, being killed, otherwise getting fucked over, or just turning out to be a shitty character*, I am assigning Brian Bendis a massive amount of credit, backdated to today.
If he gets fed into the woodchipper of whatever nearest awful Event Comic then he forfeits all points, forever. *I'll even grade the "shitty character" thing with a "for Bendis" tacked on. |
New character should have been half-black and half-white and running for class president. Flash Thompson, Jr. spreads rumors that he is a secret...Wiccan... to try and ruin his campaign.
