"Clevinger"... hmmmm...
Okay, so I'm anal about things, but I need to know how Brian's last name is actually pronounced. I tend to do it the German way, but that's probably not right; then again, the name looks as if it could have German roots and in any case I have not a clue as to how an English native speaker would pronounce it and it's driving me FREAKING NUTS!!!
Ahem. Actually, I just want to introduce 8-Bit Theater to my literature class and don't want to stand there going "by Brian Cle... Clevin... I'll just write it on the board there...". But I've also been wondering about it. For reference: German way = Clevinger, with the "e" like in "men" and the "ng" like at the end of "long". Other ways I could imagine would be: the "e" more like a slightly prolonged "i" and the "ng" like in "lounge". So, which is it? And, come to think of it, where's it stressed? *reads over post* ... as I said: anal. |
This is too hard for me to explain about my own language, so I'l just leave it to this: Clevinger...thast how I pronounce it...

If you go to www.mortality.net and download the archive where they had an interview with Brian, they pronounce his name.
[Edit]Here, I was nice enough to go find it for you guys.[/Edit] |
I'm not gonna download it with a 56k. But any way I pronounse it with a slight ö in the end. Clevingör or just Clevinger...too complicated...

There's also an episode of Tail Spin where they go to Colorado and there's a female character named Clementine Clevinger. Or there's the movie version of Catch 22 which, I would imagine, makes reference to the character from the book named Clevinger.
But, in case you're some kind of mutant and don't have either of those immediately handy... "Klev-in-jer". That help? |

Aye, thanks. I figured that was the most likely way. While I do have Catch-22 ready, it's German dubbed and therefore of limited use, and as for Tale Spin, would it be much of an act of heresy if I admitted to not knowing it? From that one Moldy Peaches song I can just about figure that it's a cartoon, but then the rate of knowledge drops to zero. Or rather, "steps down".
Can't really rule the mutant thing out, by the way. I've always been wondering about the fur and fangs. |
Is it just me, or has Brian been more active on the forums lately?
And for some reason, he reminds me of Holden from 'catcher in the rye'... maybe I'm just insane. |
