Minister orders the arrest of all homosexuals

Quote:

The Western Region Minister Paul Evans Aidoo has ordered the immediate arrest of all homosexuals in the region.

He has tasked the Bureau of National Investigations and all security agencies to smoke out persons suspected to be engaging in same sex.

He also enlisted the services of landlords and tenants to provide reliable information which will lead to the arrest of homosexuals.

His directive follows months of campaigns against the practice of homosexuality in the country.

Only yesterday, the Christian Council of Ghana capped months of protestations against the practice of homosexuality with a strongly worded message against the practice and courting Ghanaians not to vote for any politician who believes in the rights of homosexuals.
Call me crazy, but doesn't this smack of really really bad for civil rights and a right to privacy?

I find it amazing how a minister could garner this type of power. What's even worse is when a police force executes this without any thoughts into the moral implications.

I thought this was satire 'till I saw it was from Ghana.

That is thee most screwed up thing I've seen tonight. Seriously it shocks me that this can STILL happen in this day and age.

Male gay sex is officially illegal there, but not female gay sex (for some reason).

EDIT: Not sure if you guys have heard of The Family, but it's an American Christian fundamentalist organization that helps fund anti-gay legislation in places like this, particularly Uganda. They literally give money to funding bills and politicians in these third-world countries that if passed into law will lead to people being imprisoned and quite possibly executed for simply being gay. It's almost like funding terrorism or something. It's seriously screwed up that they get away with stuff like that.

Introduction of Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill

Bahati came to international attention in October 2009 after introducing the Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill as a Private Member's Bill on 13 October proposing that a new offence be created in Uganda named "aggravated homosexuality" which would be punishable as a capital offence.[8] The proposals included plans to introduce the death penalty for homosexuals who practiced gay sex with people under 18, with disabled people, when the accused party is HIV-positive,[9] or for those previously convicted of homosexuality-related offences. Bahati has expressed a desire to "kill every last gay person."[2]

Sharlet suggested that the bill came about as a result of Bahati's membership in The Family.[6] He revealed that Bahati reportedly first floated the idea of executing gays during The Family's Uganda National Prayer Breakfast in 2008.[7] Bob Hunter, a member of The Family, gave an interview to NPR in December 2009 in which he acknowledged Bahati's connection but argued that no American associates support the bill.[10] After news of the gay execution law broke, Bahati was disinvited from the 2010 U.S. National Prayer Breakfast.[7]

Bahati was interviewed by Rachel Maddow in December 2010. Bahati asserted that $15 million had been invested in Uganda to recruit children into being gay.[11] When pressed by Maddow for recruitment tactics, he stated that children are enticed with money to lure them into the practice of homosexuality. Bahati asserted that videos are being circulated in Uganda that state that "a man sleeping with a man is okay," which were being used for recruitment. Maddow challenged this assertion, stating that recruitment of children by gays is a common myth in any and all countries that have debated laws like that proposed in Uganda. Bahati agreed to publish the videos, but has failed to do so.

I think we all know what that reason is.

Women don't HAVE sex, they GET sexed, so two women can't conceivably have sex, of course.

Well... at least they're against the idea of killing gays. >_>;

Guess they're not complete monsters.

Osterbaum 07-24-2011 09:01 AM

Fuck that, they're assholes and if not complete monsters then pretty fucking close.

Magus 07-24-2011 01:34 PM

I highly doubt they are actually against killing gay people since they fund legislation in places where thousands of people are rounded up and executed every year for various things almost on a whim, not just homosexuality. If they didn't think that the end result of funding legislation against gays in a third-world African country probably isn't a bunch of gays getting killed, they would be complete idiots. And it's quite clear that the people in The Family are not complete idiots.

It is just all kinds of fucked up we don't even know where to start...
