Lets talk about that uncanny valley

Looking around the net, the gaming community, and generally my fellow Americans. It always got me wondering.

Why does Uncanny Valley seem like a big thing in the world? I've never had this kind of problem (out side of faking it for the lolz) and always wondered why people seem to have a problem with things like dolls or animated (cartoon is too insulting of a word for me to use) characters that look almost realistic or use realistic textures.

So lets talk the varying degrees of uncanny valley and what we each think is creepy as all sin. For me hardly anything outside of a dead body qualifies as Uncanny. And pretty soon even that won't bother me. Though I could be considered a furry so there is that...

How about you?

I've never actually experienced the revulsion of the uncanny valley. I notice when animated people don't look right but in more of a critical manner. And really a lot of the stuff that looks laughable today fooled me at the time, starting with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, or the new Beowulf movie. Now I look back and I'm like "man those are pretty terrible" but again it's more criticism than actual disgust.

EDIT: Actually I'd say gamers as a whole are probably mostly physically unaffected by the uncanny valley since we play so many games that are trying to accomplish that style of realism. You'd probably have to look for people who mostly just watch live-action movies, or even just read to still get actual mental/physical discomfort.

Uncanny valley, eh

That's more amazing then creepy though. To think in 10 years, we'll have Androids/Cynoids walking amongst us.

Watch The Polar Express if you're not aware how deep the uncanny valley goes. This

looks much, much better than the actual moving picture.

Kind of made him look more like an old woman with botox injections that prevent proper facial expressions.

EDIT: I want the Colonel Sanders version.
