Organizing Amateur Charities
Today I decided that I wanted to help the community so I created an event on Facebook asking people to help me collect money so we could make care packages for the homeless around town. I'm hoping that I can get this off the ground but I have no experience with an event like this.
Do any of you have experience with something like this? I want to do this right and make sure a difference, no matter how small, is made. |
I'd actually... well, not go door-to-door, but find a way to reach out to more people. It might just be thart I come from a small town, a town populated nearly exclusively by geriatrics, but I don't think a FB group is going to reach the amount you hope it will.
Sit outside the local grocer with a table and a visual of who you are and what you hope to acheive. Talk to a few people about improvements that they would like to see - they're part of your community, you should get their input. Talk to your municipal persons - your mayor, or a representative therof; if you're going for charity, wonderful. If you're striving for change, you can at least have a statement that makes you more than a pretty face, and an idea of what you can accomplish. But more power to 'ya, sir. All the best to your charity - and if you get some sorta PayPal thing goin', I'll try 'ta be the first one to offer what I can. |

Before I start hanging outside stores I want to get the ball rolling first. If I can show results to people it might be easier to get a community invested in the idea. And I don't think I'll be setting up a PayPal on the forum. I really want this to be something that the people in my area make happen. |
