What am I missing?

That there's a tournament?

That their Q&A explains what DotA is?

...actually this looks less impressive then LoL does.

And LoL's tourney is worth 5Mil.

I'll stick with SotIS (StarCraft 2's user-made DotA clone. It was my first introduction to the MOBA genre and I've stuck with it since) and the occasional LoL. Nothing I'm seeing about DotA 2 has me clamoring to get this game, especially considering all the alternatives.

Since LoL is free, I can't see myself paying for this game.

I doubt it will be pay to play, all of it's competitors are F2P (okay technically you gotta buy Wc3+TFT for DOTA allstars) and valve got great success with TF2 being F2P. I will be surprised and confused if it is not F2P.
