Goddammit. Beat it for the second time, and I got the Foxiest of the Hounds achievement (no alarms raised). However, despite only using lethal weapons during boss fights, and either sneaking past guards or tazing them or tranqing them, I didn't get the pacifist achievement. Some people are saying the tranq rifle can kill, and a mod(erator) on the deus ex forums gave a vague quasi-confirmation. People are even claiming that they shoot someone with the tranq gun, get the merciful soul bonus, and then come back later and the guy is dead. I have a feeling this is what happened to me.
So warning to everyone going for a pacifist run: Don't use the tranq gun. |
speaking of mods, how is the community for Deus Ex? I know its abit too early to expect alot of mods, but you can normally get a feel for how many to expect in the future
|
I meant mod as in moderator, not modification :P
But now that you mention it I'm gonna go look to see if there are any of those. |
mods are often the deal breaker for me, I got New Vegas for the PC specifically because it had a good modding community

Ok so I guess there are no mod tools for the game yet, with no word on when/if any might be released.
EDIT -- Oh and yesterday, on the ticker in the main menu, they said there would be an announcement today. Well turns out it's a code Quote:

Finished with my stealth/hacker/takedown funtastic mixture build. I chose to destroy the station and myself.
Overall really great game. Story not as compelling as Mass Effect, but at least it's (somewhat [kinda]) near the same level. Really, really fun to play. I may even start my next playthrough tonight. |
Oh by the way, guys.
Don't skip the ending credits. There's a special bonus prize if you sit through them. Edit@Arc: The tranq gun supposedly can kill with headshots sometimes. But it shouldn't give you merciful soul (instead it should give you marksman). The other thing happens if you drag them too far and reload the area it will cause them to respawn as dead instead of sleeping for some weird reason. At least according to the internet. It can happen with stun gun, tranq, or even non-lethal take downs. I'm not sure if it affects the pacifist achievement, though. |
Also the laser rifle is nuts. I stocked up on plasma rifle like Krylo suggested, but I never even needed to switch to it. Namir went down in seconds, as did the turrets/people in the Hyron Core. Ridiculous.

I might just do a speed run playthough without knocking out anyone. Literally. Just cloak, silent running, sprint upgrades, and energy. (incidentally cloaking and silent-running is great for getting past the crazies during the last level) |
I just love the way cutscenes in this game force you to walk straight into the wide open room that's obviously a trap, despite playing as a stealth character.
Just how can Barrett sneak up on you anyway? He looks like he's seven feet tall, and 500 pounds, at least! Cutscene incompetence is one of my biggest complaints about this game, despite having a ton of fun with it overall. |
