Bob hangs to the left!

It only took about 2847 days to bring me around, but tonight is the first time I am comfortable in officially declaring myself a liberal.

This is also a terrible thing.

Because I really wasn't insane right-wing to begin with. Just deeply deeply ignorant. Which means that to bring your average conservative to my point using a constant and daily barrage of facts and truth would require at least that amount of time and effort.

Our country is boned for at least the next eight years, and that's if we start now.

But, for the time being I declare September 6th "Bob Hangs to the Left Day"! I...I feel like buying a cake or something. And having, like, a frosting elephant on top...that's on fire!

Just take comfort in the fact that as an American liberal you're still pretty fascist according to all the non-American members here!

I'm not making a point here or anything I'm just interested in your answer

What exactly prompted this and why swing to another end of political ideology rather than take each issue on case by case basis? (which, admittedly, may make you a de facto liberal).

It was either A) one more changed opinion tonight finally tipped me in favor of the other side after being a centrist for so long or B) I was just kidding myself the whole time I referred to myself as a centrist anyway.

I still take it case by case. It's just that, in most cases, I now come out on this side.

That's great and all and I'ma let you finish...

...

I never quite understood the idea that people label themselves liberal, conservative or radical when that means absolutely nothing except for American politics.

I may be a human...that counts for something, right?

So, how many political ideologies are there in the US besides conservative and liberal?

Nique 09-06-2011 11:19 PM

We're so awesome and cool like not being into labels guys.

Politics is made very over-important (if for actual issues or to celebritize politicians is for you to perceive) and this is probably one of the best "political" posts in this forum.

Ever.

It's a hard thing to really nail down since no other viewpoints can validly be raised up. The problem is that so many views are lumped into Democrat/Liberal and Republican/Conservative, that they've effectively lost meaning and their own idealistic backgrounds.

Both parties believe in a large collusion of government officials controlling the populace. They fight to preserve the two party system at the behest of the betterment of American society. Parties such as the Pirate Party, Green Leaf Party, Liberal Party are considered fringe. The Tea Party mainly had heavy financing for their current success so you can consider them a fringe party.

Thing is, there's a lot more views such as Stephen Kinsella who defines himself as an Anarcho-capitalist, but you won't hear about that on Fox News. I just think defining yourself by a political ideology does nothing but put blinders onto how you view the world.

It's 'cause they live in America, where American politics actually matter?
