Dead Rising 2: Off the Record; Also why does Capcom hate Germany?
Oh cool a Dead Rising 2 remake.
I found DR2 to be mediocre but it did have potential, and this may just use that. My main reason for making this thread though is this Quote:
|
Doesn't Germany have a lot of strict censorship laws regarding video game content? Maybe Capcom's still working on a port that can pass regulations and in the meantime doesn't want to get in trouble with people downloading the international version?
|
Because you shouldn't give germans murder simulators to train on. That's how they came up with Blitzkreig.
I commend Capcom for taking the rare action of ignoring the bottom line in favour of world safety. |
Germany is one of the worst game censored places this side of Australia. They can rairly get inports let alone international versions. They have this over welming fear that it will make them all killers or something

Ah the Dead Rising franchise, a set of games that have been near and dear to my heart. Though it has gone astray, even in a Canadian developer's hands: Case West was atrocious and only did one thing right at all.
I think where people go wrong is they get Dead Rising games expecting a third person zombie survival game, which it is most certainly NOT! It's more like a third person comedy zombie game. Survivalists and hardcore zombigamers should be hitting up Fallout or Dead Island instead. I adored Dead Rising 2 because the co-op was fantastic and let me experience Dead Rising 1 with a friend. We played through it about four times in total, doing different stuff each time. That's what I love about the game. Some people seem tied to doing the Cases, but why? They're practically optional. By far, FAR, the most endearing thing about the games are how your game clothes carry into cutscenes. Review score for Dead Rising 2 with the Ijiek Jacket and default clothing: 6-7/10 Review score for Dead Rising 2 with a Tutu, Space Boots, Flaming Bull Skull/Lumberjack Beard: 9/10 I can't really explain it beyond that. It's a playground with zombies where you can do ridiculous shit, and thanks to DR2, with a friend. The sequel also brought plenty of needed polish to the table. Firearms, for instance, were less of a pain to use. That left me somewhat apprehensive for this Off the Record version, while at the same time knowing I would be a first day buyer. I mean, I'd rather have a longer wait for Dead Rising 3, with the potential for a different setting, >2 player co-op, or other shenanighens. I downloaded it ASAP and played for two hours with a friend last night though. My first impressions were pretty positive. However, to be clear, this game is still Dead Rising 2. You're playing as Frank West, and you've got a nicely polished camera again, but it's the same game essentially. They're doing interesting stuff mixing up the cutscenes, and I'm curious to see if the plot changes entirely due to Frank's presence. If you missed Dead Rising 2 but are interested in giving the game a go, I'd recommend doing for this version. If you didn't really like Dead Rising 2, I see little reason why you'd be sold on this one much more. EDIT: For some reason my Steam Screenshot Uploader wasn't working last night. Otherwise, I would share some easily obtained gems. |
Personally, I just cant see a reason for this game to exist. Its the same exact game, and DR2 is not so old that a remake is in order. Seems more like a shameless cash in then a legitimate attempt to make a game.

But it is shameless, since it also includes stuff like performance fixes and bug fixes, stuff that really should just be patched into DR2, but it never was. Plus even if you have the core game, like me, you get no discount or option to buy it as DLC. Capcom has been getting back into shitty old habits, making people re-buy games instead of just using DLC, and since it sells (since sad fact, fanboys buy anything which = sales.) Capcom has no reason to stop. |
Well, it would be inaccurate to call it the "same exact game." It's more accurately "How would Dead Rising 2 play out if Frank West were the protagonist?" Including changes to the story, new items, combo weapons, bosses, etc. All of this could have been DLC, though large DLC like Rockstar pulls.
Still mostly a cash-in, in the same vein as fighting game re-releases/GOTY editions, but there it is. Personally, if I had spearheaded this game though, I would have milked the Frank West/Chuck Greene co-op angle more. It was the only admirable quality of Case West. Having co-op cutscenes would be so aces. Edit: Damn I got the fuck ninja'd out of me. |
Oh, it's not just Germany. Capcom hates the whole world.
Otherwise they wouldn't cancel games fans have been clamoring for, refuse to localize the next Ace Attourney in favor of more Professor Layton crap, hand a beloved franchise over to those hacks at Ninja Theory to massacre, and shit on fans in their own twitter feed. Nope, once Ultimate MvC3 and the DMC HD Collection release, I'm done with Capcom. They will have none of my monies. None of them. |
Well lets atleast all agree that this isn't worth 60 bucks
