Trouble Running Minecraft on Laptop

So yeah.

My laptop's specs aren't too bad as far as I know, yet Minecraft runs like a piece of junk. Absolutely horrible lag and frame rate issues, takes ages to load in, and I'm not sure how to fix it. If anyone can suggest anything let me know.

Here's my laptop specs:

Model: HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.80 GB useable)
System Type: 64-bit Operating System

Hmmm It's windows 7 right?
Meh ether way lets do the Quick Easy fixes first
Update your java.
Delete you .minecraft file and redownload a new one.
Check your processes and see if there is something consuming in processioning and ram.
clean out your Trash can/Recycle bin.
Put unused icons on your Desktop into folders.
Once thats done tell me how it works.

Did all that and it's still playing like shit.

I am going to assume you're invested enough in the solution that you've already played with graphics settings to see if any of them are messing it up?

That's not a bad laptop, at least, it should run Minecraft, I've had a worse laptop that used to.

That being said, Minecraft is a fickle beast. It crashes all the time on my gaming rig.

1. I assume it has integrated video? Try looking for an update anyway.
2. Minecraft actually responds to increased priority in task manager. Go to the minecraft.exe process and increase it to Highest or Realtime.
3. Running mods? I believe you can do a total clean reinstall by going to Documents/AppData/Roaming/Minecraft and deleting those folders. You'll have to reinstall any mods.

I completely deleted the .minecraft folder in my AppData and redownloaded and set the priority to High (it wouldn't go to Realtime for some reason). I got up to a whopping 14 max fps and it still keeps waffling between that and single digits.

Does the used and allocated memory values mean anything?

Try Spout. It replaces the Minecraft exe (but is a separate install, so you can have both), and seems to run about five hundred times better. I was having major disconnection problems and they vanished when I started using Spout.

Sprout upped my used memory to about 40-50% which seemed to help it at least run even though FPS was still tanked. Still haven't fully tried what Azisien linked (the mediafile link there seems to be dead and I'm having trouble deciphering the programming moonspeak that comes before it).

Just noticed this thread and decided to see if Spoutcraft would make my laptop stop taking it in the ass from minecraft (memory leaks) and it worked.

You may want to try adjusting your settings, either in spoutcraft or in minecraft. In minecraft you don't have a TON of options but switching your graphics from fancy to fast should help. Maybe see what the Advanced OpenGL is set to and set it to the opposite of that?

In spoutcraft you have more fine-grained graphics options but if you hover over each setting button it should tell you what it does and how it'll affect performance, then just go through and set everything to whatever it says will improve things.

The specs on your laptop sound pretty close to my work laptop's settings and yeah last time I tried minecraft on that it ran like buttsauce.
