A small, smug part of me is amused by the fact that 99.99% of these tweets have atrocious spelling and grammar. Like they're failing English as badly as they're failing whatever they're trying to study.

You know what's stupid about the Wikipedia Black-out?
It was only the English language site, being Dutch and all, I technically wouldn't have been "affected". But the Dutch Wikipedia sucks so hard in terms of language and content, I still missed it immensely. Well... immensely for the one thing I needed to use Wikipedia for. I still managed, of course. EDIT: Mind, I do fully support the black-out, of course. It was just a thing that sprung to mind. |
... I... I... wat.
First, while I didn't go to wikipedia during the blackout (because I knew it was coming), but it seems that there was at least some amount of information on it. Some people who didn't see this coming were aware that it was for a day while others seem completely unaware. If the blackout screen had information about the blackout, much of this becomes even more ridiculous.
Second, some thoughts as I stroll down the list. Because, wow: I'm rather blown away. Quote:

Wait, no, nuklearforums needs this in joke form... okay, I can do this. *Ahem* "Alternatively: did you try a... straight email?" *rimshot* OR "Alternatively: it just doesn't swing that way!" OR PERHAPS you should use a different term of unilateral rejection based on an ethnic/social/political group? I'm only really surprised that the person that put this together only put up 412. I suspect that there are far more that (s)he could farm. Probably gets tiring after a while, though. Also, it's rather silly of people to complain about a service that they get for free being taken from them. "Oh, noes, this thing I like that's free has decided to go in a direction I don't want... for a day! I MUST NOT BE DENIED FOR EVEN ONE DAY." I mean, I get that it's an inconvenience but, you know, it's for a good cause. Which people might get if they actually looked at anything other than the end of their own noses. Like, at all. And even then, I've seen so much on the internet about PIPA/SOPA in many places, it seemed kind of apparent. Ah well. NOW TO GO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY OWN FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS ELSEWHERE. |

Man fucking in my day when we were doing homework we had to use books. Fucking it'll teach kids some character.
When I'm marking yo shit I know whether you've used a sweet book or the dirty whore internet and that should be in marking discretion as character. |
Hahahaha oh wow
I mean when I looked at tacticslion's post I was all like "eh these are probably all 12" but holy shit they are actually people who are probably going to be eligible to vote in 2-3 years' time. And they assume their inability to access wikepedia either stems from wikipedia being a) a cunt, b) gay, c) communist or d) all of the above OR is form of government censorship. Despite the fact that they must have read about the fact that this is a form of political protest or else they would not know wikipedia was blacked out at all. And I mean, it's not like they don't care, they clearly care enough to write profanity-laden tweets, just not enough to read the actual explanation that is on the actual website they are complaining about. I mean, I don't often go on "people are dumb" rants, but wow People are dumb |
Eh.

From what I understand, most professors don't like Wikipedia as a source anyway (unless you source the sources and/or it's sparsely used) which was the primary source of humor for those kinds of things to me. I mean, it's not like Google wasn't usable or there weren't other sites that they could go to. Also, the main problem with internet usage, that I've run into is when the students use them to literally copy/paste (occasionally going so far as to *gasp* edit!) some assignment they had to write about. Otherwise, the internet's pretty cool. Unless, of course, you're being completely serious. In which case... I'm so sorry for you. And Geminex, yeah, that's kind of my point: when I first looked at these things, that's pretty much exactly what I thought, too. And then I read more. Yipes. |
