Virginia Law Requires Abortion Seeking Women to be Forcibly Violated

This week, the Virginia state Legislature passed a bill that would require women to have an ultrasound before they may have an abortion. Because the great majority of abortions occur during the first 12 weeks, that means most women will be forced to have a transvaginal procedure, in which a probe is inserted into the vagina, and then moved around until an ultrasound image is produced. Since a proposed amendment to the bill—a provision that would have had the patient consent to this bodily intrusion or allowed the physician to opt not to do the vaginal ultrasound—failed on 64-34 vote, the law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason. I am not the first person to note that under any other set of facts, that would constitute rape under state law.

What’s more, a provision of the law that has received almost no media attention would ensure that a certification by the doctor that the patient either did or didn’t “avail herself of the opportunity” to view the ultrasound or listen to the fetal heartbeat will go into the woman’s medical record. Whether she wants it there or not. I guess they were all out of scarlet letters in Richmond.
Anti-Abortion lawmakers continue to REALLY FUCKING HATE WOMEN.

Medical doctors aren't allowed to not do this on moral and ethical grounds, or even the fact that the procedure is in no way whatsoever medically fucking necessary whatsoever.

Woman-hating doctors are allowed to not do abortions or provide birth control etc etc if they're against it even if the patient's life is at risk.

I don't think there's any facepalms large enough...

-Edit- I seriously just can't believe that VA just allowed state sanctioned rape. And looking at a few other references to the story, the GOP women think "Oh, since you let a penis enter you, it should be okay to allow this invasive maneuver which is not needed. Democrats may be bad... But Republicans are hideous.

Fuck Virginia.

That's exactly the problem, Ecks! Oh wait you said Virginia.

Additionally: GOP believes that a 5-member panel composed entirely of males is entitled to determine continuing female reproductive health. Additionally: GOP thinks girl's skirts at CPAC were "too short" and ultimately dismissed the controvery but included "ladies, please". Additionally, GOP SuperPAC leaders indicate that "back in their day, they didn't need contraception, and it wasn't expensive for them either; ladies just put a bayer aspirin between their knees and it worked fine".

All of the above happened in the course of a single day.

See I thought that dude meant that if you put aspirin between your knees you have to keep your legs together to keep it from falling out, i.e. abstinence as contraception.

But here it was some kind of zany in-joke from 50 years ago that you apparently have to be an ancient person to even begin to understand, when contraception via pill was a new-fangled scientific breakthrough that people did not understand.

I hope Mr. Friess is remanded to an assisted living facility for the care he needs. Elderly people with dementia should not be wandering around the streets by themselves. They may get hurt or lost.

No, no, he quite literally meant whores should keep their legs shut. Don't be confused by further explanation and backpedalling.

Well the backpedalling was so hilariously confusing and contrived I guess I fell for his "I'm a senile old man" routine, yeah.

You know, I think we should let a bunch of old Nuns testify about Viagra on the Capitol if it ever happens. Have to keep things even!
