SATIRE/PROPAGANDA: Bushgame
Even though I don't like this thing, I figure I'd make the 8-Bit Discussion group aware of it (if you're not already familiar). I also don't know if Brian has linked to this in 8-Bit Theater's news stuffages, because, well... I haven't been paying attention. x_o;
Therefore, if this has already been discussed, I will not protest if I am given a thorough asskicking. D: http://www.emogame.com/bushgame.html Warning: It's not work safe. It gets pretty vulgar, and has some sexual scenes. With sprites. Yes, you heard me. This is a flash game, using sprites (the style looks familiar...) that is, well, pure unabashed propaganda. The message is quite clear and they make no attempts to be subversive: "Bush is Satan, vote Kerry!" I played through it, and though it I share similar sentiments regarding Bush and his favoritism to Corporate America (and just look at the byproducts of that - the RIAA's crusade, media consolidation, and TCPA/Palladium), I dislike it a lot. Two reasons why. One, they have an anti-space exploration/colonization bent, labeling programs such as heading to Mars as "silly" or "worthless." I think I've discussed the benefits of a space program - like Dubya's moonbase - before. I don't see how harnessing the surface of the moon as a giant solar farm to provide the world's energy several times over is "worthless." Second, these guys make Michael Moore a hero. Anyone who thinks this fact-fabricating guy is praiseworthy (or worse, uses him as part of their pointmaking) instantly has their arguments disqualified in my mind. I can't believe this dude gets awards and worldwide praise for his crap -- then again, it just goes to show you the planetary fetish of anti-Americanism (I hear the French give Moore treatment reserved only for high level diplomats). c_c That's how I feel, though. How do you all feel about the game? |
I ran across the game a few days ago, and while I thought some parts were really funny and/or entertaining, I felt the BS perpetuated inbetween "action sequences" to be insulting to my intelligence. Bush is a screw up, to put it lightly, and I do not like him or his policies... but still, this game distorts facts, and is so blatantly one-sided that I couldn't continue to play past the "dividend tax" part.

Oh man, that was pretty hilarious. I pretty much ignored most of the crap they interspliced, but it was hilariously entertaining. I mean come on... Voltron!
|
Voltron is one smooth mo-fo. Yeah I ignored most of the crap too but Voltron in this is freaking hilarious.
|
I liked the game, although I knew the vulgar parts would tarnish its reputation. I thought that the fact portions were good, and the characters hilarious.
About michael moore: Err...they never really praised him. You get to play as him, and he says a few generic insults that all the rest of them say, too. The thing is, you shouldn't think of it as a game. It was obviously a vehicle to talk about the problems of the Bush Administration, hence the little sequences in between (which I thought were very well-done). Plus, getting to play as jesus and rosie o'donnell? Own3d! |
That's why I think they praise 'em, Locke. I may be reading into it, but making Moore a playable character alongside the others who give reasons why they're joining you (Christover Reeve and the stem cells, Howard Stern and the FCC, etc.) ... er, anyone see my train of thought here? x_o;
It just looks to me like they're praising Moore as one of the heros in the anti-Bush crusade to me. And KhanFusion/Locke: Could you be a bit more specific concerning the fact disortion (or in Locke's case, why the facts are sound)? It'd do some justice to discuss what in BushGame is true, what is disorted, and what is made up (Having Moore, a dude who fabricates evidence for his "documentaries," as a playable character also makes me a bit suspect to their own facts and arguments ... ). |
Hmmm The thing is they say its the worst administration yet. I think that is incorrect. Anybody here ever here of a man named Richard Nixon? Bill Clinton also was not as good as everyone made him out to be. I think he has a record of his own. But the game is pretty fun in its own way, but it would be better if my computer wasn't so god damn slow...

Trev-MUN, this holds no relevance at this moment, but depending on how you answer, it will become relevant to this thread: Do you believe people who claim video games cause violent behavior and therefore must be banned are right?
|
The facts and propaganda? Push off, demagogue, papa's smacking Robeast Rove down.
The game? Funny, and I liked the soundtrack. The special attacks were pretty nifty too. |
DEAN SCREAM ATTACK! YEEEAAAGH!
Heh, that was a fun little game overall. Actually provided a somewhat convincing argument for voting for Kerry. Then the thing is, you have to hope that Kerry actually makes good on everything he promises... Probably one of the most interesting pieces of Propoganda I've ever played, overall. |
