Kickstarting games

This has officially become a thing hasn't it?

I kinda find it amazing how this stuff is coming along... i mean, some of these dream projects are trully high elaborate and some do seem to be pretty good. And we have all these... i suppose the word "vanity project" isn't the most true to form, but still... made by all these seasoned developers and major figures in the gaming industry that are pretty much trying to bypass the entire process of greenlighting a game just to get a personal project they are passionate about, out the door.

Check some of these already funded games

Code Hero

The Nasa MMO

Uberdark (or Pretty Minecraft)
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...g?ref=category

Aura Tactics

And of course, we have Takedown
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ctical-shooter

Wasteland 2
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2

And Double FIne project
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...fine-adventure

all and all i have to say i like the idea in these... i mean, it's a new venue to create games (even tabletop games, but i'm focusing this OP on PC and Console) without having to withstand the grinding fields of corporate production, right?

on the sad side there is the fact that a lot of people have dream games and dream projects (hell, i would love for people to fund MY game ideas...) but lack the connections and links to actual pro's to make it so even with the money...

If anything else, Kickstarter is also a fine way to get yourself a pre-order on many of these games with a price point way below retail, and if the project fails you get the money back anyways...

crowd sourcing is pretty much fantastic and it's something that should have been a thing a long time ago.

Yeah, this shit is excellent. I love how ridiculous some of the grand prizes are for some things too. Lunch with Tim Schafer? For only ten grand? What a steal!

Maybe one day i'll make my own dream game with a million dollars from donations too...

,,,my beautiful 3rd person Sandbox Styled "Rainbow Six Meets Assassin's Creed" with rangers and 100% focused on snipping with realistic Bow and Arrow physics and Stealth gameplay mechanics to make the Thief series and Splinter cell look like freaking peekaboo.

...one day... one day....

You didn't hear about the FPS MMO coming out?

What? which one?

I'm looking forward to when this kind of thing becomes popular with other mediums as well. I imagine if Joss Whedon did a kickstarter project he'd see results as good as Double Fine.

I'm looking forward to this one, as well as Wastelands 2:

Shadowrun Returns

I loved Shadowrun on the Genesis, and even though this will play differently, the atmosphere of the game should be amazing.

I guarantee you I would drop a good amount of money into that. More so if one of the donation prizes was to be an extra or something.
