PROTIP: If you're typing a post and the post unironically contains the term "reverse racism," you should take a second to really think about how stupid you sound for using it.

Quote:

if a bunch of assholes half the world away from you do something you find offensive
can you just

not look
Please tell that to all the racists involved in Draw Mohammed Day.

Quote:

"oh look a bunch of people pissing off muslims they must all be racists"

fun fact: the fact that we are living and breathing and not praising allah pisses off some muslims, its really not a hard thing to do, even if we are doing something that is expressly trying NOT to be offensive to somebody.
Hey

There is a pretty obvious difference between doing something with the expressed purpose of pissing a group of people off and pissing a group of people off by your mere existence

Like, you are presumably not too stupid to realize that this difference exists, so I honestly have to wonder what the fuck you're doing acting like the difference doesn't exist

what if, out of the thousands of submissions, some of these drawings aren't caricatures. what if, what if one of them happens to be made by like some naive hopeful tyke drawing a bunch of religious figures all holding hands and shit, promoting world peace and unity?

oh he included mohammed, that's offensive to muslims, RACIST.
I have zero problems with people drawing pictures of Mohammed

I have problems with people drawing pictures of Mohammed to piss Muslim people off, which is what everyone drawing pictures of Mohammed under the banner of this movement is doing.

I'm going to wager that a five year old does not know about any of the issues involved and is not doing it with the intended purpose of pissing Muslim people off.

also, i'm pretty sure most people don't need defending. who the fuck are we, priveleged people (of many colors) living in a western world running around thinking we have to police everyone, so no one is offended and everyone is living eating breathing and shitting freedom.

has it ever occurred, to anyone... that maybe some people don't need defending? maybe the words of a dozen fuckbags over the internet mean absolute dick to a guy living his life in service to the deity of his choice, a simple yet possibly contented existence?
I'm not doing this to defend people.

I'm doing it because racists tick me off.

And this movement is rallying behind the banner of "We of the privileged Western world must save these poor Muslims... from themselves!"

SO

YEAH

Quote:

fuck that shit. i am not responsible for what people in my bloodline may or may not have done.
goddamn this is literally the dumbest thing I have seen in this thread

and I'm not even going to explain why

because it'll be funnier to watch you dig a deeper hole trying to defend it

Ecks 05-27-2012 03:02 PM

whatever, i'm out, fuck this noise.

This is a thing that I think people are seriously forgetting.

Muslims get a LOT of shit in America. They have even before 9/11 made it "socially acceptable" not to trust Muslims, but now it's even worse. The fear of physical assault is a very real thing, and I'm sure the other atheists and LGBT people around here know that people not trusting you because of an inherent factor of who you are takes it's toll. This sort of thing doesn't just "troll" people in the Middle East, it sends a massive "fuck you" to each and every Muslim in the world, a lot of whom already feel victimized as it is. There is no reason to draw their prophet unless you are deliberately trying to make them uncomfortable, and if you're gonna do that, fine, but don't you dare try to morally justify it by saying you think their belief is stupid- that's /b/ level dumbassery right there.

Fenris 05-27-2012 05:06 PM

Liz, you're doing that thing where you have good intentions and then are a total asshole about presenting those intentions, so if you could stop calling everybody racists, that would be swell.

Also, if everybody else would stop defending this horribly bigotted and offensive... event... thing, that would also be swell too.

Osterbaum 05-27-2012 05:17 PM

Yeah I'm just going to clarify my position so there are no misunderstandings: Freedom of speech and freedom of expression: important. Using that freedom of expression to draw Muhammed just to piss muslims off: something (possibly racist) assholes do.

e: In Finland there's a crime that goes with the name of "incitement against a group of people". Basically if you spout racist nonsense to such a degree that it could be understood as advocating action against non-whites that would be a crime. I'm curious if there's something similar elsewhere?

What the fuck.

I'm pretty sure what he means is.

When you go something like "YOUR ARGUMENT IS STUPID"

instead of "Your argument is wrong and here is why..."

Kim 05-27-2012 05:26 PM

The argument is that the thing they are doing is racist.

PROTIP: If it is racist then it is racist.

Kim 05-27-2012 05:27 PM

Oh fuck you, Fenris, you ten year old child.

Token 05-27-2012 05:28 PM

If you really need to have it explained to you why racism IS stupid, that's sort of a problem.

Sifright 05-27-2012 05:30 PM

No I understand perfectly why racism is stupid thats not what's being discussed.

When you remove all context from a situation it's pretty easy to dismiss everything a person has said though.

Edit: like I guess there isn't a specific word that has the same connotation towards hating a religion as the word racist has towards hating an ethnic group or skin color.

It just doesn't seem to fit the situation and I think using the word so broadly weakens its meaning.
