Gto
I've been watching this show GTO every night at 9 on showtime. I think it's really great. It's a different twist on an anime series; no going out and saving the world type thing. I was wondering if anyone else watches this or likes the show.
|
I have been collecting the anime ever since I read an article about it a year or so ago. GTO is a great series! It was the highest rated show on Japanese television ever, the last episode that is. I think the facial expressions are hilarious. The main character is such a jack ass, he is modeled after the stereotypical "American" and he is so funny! How many episodes have you watched?
|
I've caught only 5 or 6 so far but already I'm hooked. Episode 22 was on tonight. Does the same voice actor for onizuka also do the voice of spike from cowboy bebop? They really sound alike.

I believe you are correct, but I always listen to the original japanese track. its a whole lot funnier that way, his intonations are more on target. Also, some of the jokes are different. His random noises and screams are the best part. i am going to watch it right now actually!

If memory serves, this series spawned a live action television show that was even more popular. And then there's the volumes upon volumes of manga it was based upon.
It's got such a tremendously large following in multiple countries. |
I don't think it spawned an entirely new series, I believe you are referring to the final episode, which was live action. The manga on which it is based is hilarious as well, although the humor does get a bit more risque than the anime. there is one panel in an earlier manga that depicts a rather... unusual cup of ramen. that was one of the funniest images I ever saw, and disturbing as well.

Guy. No, I love this show. But some of you are saying things I think are COMPLETLY not the point of the show. I'll only mention one. Onizuka is not suppose to be precieved as a jackass! |
please don't hate me! after saying that I must reiterate my original statement, Onizuka is the classical definition of a jackass, a loud, rude, tactless imbecile. But it is through these faults that you learn to love him! that is the beauty of the show, he is so incorigible that you can't help but shrug your shoulders and go along with it. he is the hero that doesn't care what anyone thinks, only that people are saved. I love this series and the character Eickichi Onizuka is quite an (hilarious) inspiration to me. My statement still stands, but I hope it makes more sense now. *bats eyelashes at kenryoku* please don't be angry...

Yeah, large, zealous fanbase.
Hey, I'm only teasing, Ken. I get that way about certain shows or characters I like, too. |
I must admit that I can be very argumentative about certain characters that I like. To name a few Lina Inverse from Slayers and Asuka from Evangelion. Most consider both to be overly selfish, and I say what's wrong with that? I particularly identify with Asuka, I can draw a few parallels between myself and the character. So I guess it cool to be protective of a character, although cool by who's standards might be a problem ;)
