Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox

As to avoid starting an argument in one of my other topics...Feel free to rant and or debate over the current consoles.

Xbox is, however, currently the best system out there in terms of gaming capabilities and graphics. There is no point in arguing that ...
Technically yes...the Xbox is the most powerful out of the three. That does not make a system though  . A system must have games to back it up. In my opinion the Xbox has the least interesting games. I don't really see why Microsoft bothered with the Xbox. It's not like they are losing the computer industry. I don't like a single game for the Xbox......I don't own it, but the titles that are supposed to be really good I have played...Like Halo(which I think is a terrible game).
But then again.....I am not really happy with the companies right now...(as of before November, since I haven't rented any games lately)...Nintendo keeps releasing games that I don't like...and Sony isn't doing to well either. The problem is, is that before the holidays all three systems had a pretty lousy game ...um...season.
My favorite company as of right now is Sony. According to sales, Sony has sold more systems then Nintendo(duh!) and Nintendo sold more than Microsoft.

One thing I find ironic about Sony though...is that they don't seem to make very many games. It seems like they have lots of other companies making games for them(although this stratagy seems to work)

Wow, I'm impressed by the restraint the people on this board can show. On other boards things like this start flame wars and console clashes, with fanboys screaming "What you use sux0rZ!" But here, nobody replies, as it should be. Bravo!

Basically, the games make the console, not the other way around.

I was wondering... is there something like a self-fulfiling prophecy going on in console game-making?

1. Console is popular.
2. Console attracts more developers to make games for it.
3. Some of the games are good, making console even more popular.
4. Repeat Step 1.

Maybe that's why Microsoft is having such a hard time breaking nto the console market... and the fact that they stole Halo from the PC gamers (which wasn't that amazing after all) probably alienated their customers even more.

Understandable. Sony's a hardware company, not a software company. As far as I know, they don't have much for software development there at all.

If you're not interested in Halo, KotOR, Crimson Skies, Counter Strike the best versions of multiconsole games and whatever else, well then really that's not Xbox's problem.

Well, the Playstation 2 has a large number of exclusives actually, and near exclusives. They've got first dibs on the Final Fantasy games, Metal Gear games and Zone of the Enders games, as well as the Jak & Daxter and Rachet & Clank games. Plus you can throw in Ico, and its eventual sequel.

Plus, there's all the prior PS1 games that still work for the thing.

That's a pretty hefty control of the software market, if you ask me.

Plus, they've been in the Next Gen market the longest, thus having the most cout. Also, while the PS2's abilities are lacking when compared to the Xbox, it still is a pretty powerfull machine, and has more developers squeezing innovation out of the system.

Out of the 3 major consoles, PS2 is in 1st because they have a lot of great games out now and for the future (along with their past games on PS1).

Sadly I have to say X-Box is in 2nd, although they don't have too many great games X-box does have online capibilities which is important to games.

And 3rd sadly again, is Gamecube becaue they don't have many good titles out there and there isn't any online capibilities. However It is catching up to X-Box because they are turning the courner and they have some promising games in the future.

I must ask if the online capacity of consoles is really all that useful? I mean, when we go online to game, a sizeable portion of our time there is taken up communicating with each other. But gamepads would get int he way, and I doubt everyone would shell out extra money for a keyboard (which would also mean you'd be paying an extra $500+ for an experience you could have gotten on the PC)...

Wrong.

Plenty o' good titles, Soul Calibur 2 (link is best), Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero GX, Rouge Squadron 3, Metroid Prime, etc. (those are but a few of the GC only titles, there are many more titles that also appear on other consoles).

It has more titles for play than PS2. Don't believe me? GC has access to 14 years worth of Gameboy titles through the Gameboy Player add-on. (Yes, yes, I know, that's technically speaking, but it's true.)

Yes, it does have online capabilities, not anywhere near the scale of X-Box, but certainly comparable to PS2's online capability.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

Dude, Nintendo has succeeded where others have failed. The GameCube has the most well-known titles, not to mention legions of fans to those titles. When Metroid came to the GC, I went nuts! And while the GC has "kiddie" titles, yes I said it and I am a fan, those "kiddie" titles are the best damn games I have ever played. I would much rather pick up and play Animal Crossing before even bothering with GTA 3 or Vice City or even Halo! I am sorry to say, but GC is being underrated too much. They have what it takes, and they could quickly push the limits of their capabilities to attract a ton of fans to them.

Just a note, but if Nintento hadn't given up the rights of certain game producers, it would be the top system out there. Megaman, Megaman X, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, and Perfect Dark.
