Lets think of terrible uses for the Oculus Rift that we would like to be real!

So, this is the gaming section, but it' not just for games ok? its just the more logical place to put it.

I for one am excited about the Oculus Rift, I plan on somehow, someway, getting myself one as soon as commercially viable!

Hearing about Sony wanting to make its own version of it... yeah... copypasta... but if it's of something actually good, then, alright!!

I'm even more excited for a potential Oculus 2 which will allow you to turn a front face camera on and off to actually see wha the hell is in front of you (also live hud), have sensors to locate and position other oculus around you, and has a pair of gloves that track hand and finger motions translating hand gestures to quick button presses and actions...

But that's the Future-Future. Let's talk about the future.

One of the thing that is Cool about what the Oculus can do (aside from seeing first reaction videos from users) is to imagine what they can do with it and the sheer amount of shovelware and bad games we will get for it.

...then i imagine an Attack on Titan simulator for the Oculus Rift and i get an hardon, and then i imagine how many people will kill themselves by flinging themselves over windows or across rooms onto china cabinets because of something like that.

...but goddamn it that would be cool.

What other terrible ideas you had for the Oculust Rift?

It's like the Wii all over again, isn't it? ::V:

Here's the Sony prototype :3http://i.imgur.com/b2WUjWK.png

Inb4 the new Kinect uses it.

Also, on topic, I'm interested in that thing but, I'd like to play around with one before even thinking of buying it.

Actually, if you think about it... Microsoft really SHOULD rip this off too...

I mean, combine somethig like the Oculus with actually good motion control and you just might have something to play with here... right now the weak spot of the Oculus is the immersion breaking fact that you have to play with mouse and keyboard or a controller while using it.

I'm hoping for multi-waifu support, personally.

That last one is pretty clever with the VR hands, though

They're working on it.

Skifree. Imagine when the yeti shows up in 3DHD.

While I am all for augmented reality as a way to give us entirely new way to play games, VR systems not so much. It has its uses of course but using it as an overlay well Bells you already posted about something that does that better. Without that then you have a screen mounted to your face and while it does have uses it also means you are still stuck in one place and thus a very limited range of motion. There are a few Wii U games that use the gamepad in such a manner and its usually one of people's first complaints on those games.

So I messed around with one at Evo and it's kinda cool but it pretty much just feels like you're playing on every other VR headset they've made over the past couple decades, except this time in HD. Though to be fair, the game I played didn't really seem like it was really taking advantage of the OR's full capabilities, as it was a black and white side-scrolling brawler, so it was less like VR and more like you were just able to turn your head back and forth for the camera, which was sort of okay as far as being able to see what was coming at you from one side or the other, but was mostly disorienting.

Even still, it was mostly just an uncomfortable headset that smooshed my glasses in my face and made me feel like I'd gone cross-eyed.
