Baby Gerbils!!!

Got a gerbil thursday. Got another yesterday 'cause the first one was lonely. Woke this morning to annoying squeaking, looked into the cage and saw 6 baby gerbils! Did NOT see that coming. Does anybody know how to take care of them?

You must have bought a very pregnant gerbil... No way two gerbils will have babies in a day.

Also they're both females. The idiots at the pet store told she just ate too much. Welll, the babies are little hairless pink balls of cuteness. By the way the nnames of my adults:
Dominique (French name)
Aeris

Your first post makes it sound like you assumed that some gerbils had babies in a day...

But I would suggest that you either give away/sell the gerbils (Or just the male ones), or get then neutered (If you can do that to gerbils). If you don't, you will have lots of gerbils in a couple of months.

If at all possible I would move the nonmother out of the cage. Sometimes the rodents eat the babies of other rodents. Its best to take a premptive strike and move it now. Other than that keep your cats away and find a friend to pawn them off on or sometimes pet stores will buy them, but no to often.

i've had gerbals before. in fact, i still do. they've had babies too. you don't have to do anything to take care of the babies. the mother will do everything they need, so just take care of her.

if she had gotten pregnant during the time you owned her, then you would want to take the male out and put him in a seperate cage because he will eat the babies. but since they are both female, and she got pregnant at the pet store, you should be fine. just take care of your gerbals like normal.

They actualy help each other out. When one gets up to eat, the other watches the babies. It's pretty cute.
