Rep Systems or "I'm a Sore Loser!"

So I took a look at my X-box 360 Live Profile and my Player Rep. I had to laugh as at one time...I didn't know about this function and was left wondering how so many players could rate me as one to avoid. I only play one online game on my 360...World of Tanks: X-Box 360 Edition and I can confirm that for sure.

Here is the breakdown.

Quote:

18% preffered you or did not submit a review about you.
82% avoided you. See Details for more info.
And here is the details...

Quote:

Communications

Trash Talk 11% (I did get a little peeved at my team during an Encounter Match on Mountain Pass. Leaving me and two heavies to watch both the bridge and the western approach while they all went into the valley and only five came out. Meanwhile, half or more of the enemy was on the west and coming across the bridge so I let them have it about their 'Tactical Brilliance' and watched as the enemy capped the base.)

Language 11% (I will admit to occasionally swearing on the mic but I try to not do so very hard.)

Disruptive 22% (Um...if making clear a tank's weak spots is disruptive, please tell me know so I will be quiet and stop trying to note such things to my team or when a flank collapses.)

Behavior

Aggressive 0%

Unsporting 22% (Um...when was it unsporting to support team mates and just get a lucky hit on kills or not fall back when I am in a good position and ask someone else too cause they are in my line of fire?)

Quit Early 11% (I kept getting randomly DCed a few weeks ago when I just moved into my new apartment and got internet. Usually happened during a match.)

I did the math and this meant that only 5% out of the 82% that avoided me bothered to rate my skill as a player of the game. Still curious how many people this means bothered to rate me for something besides cited examples that might earn some bad rep.

Though if this is not proof that the reputation system of X-box Live's is prone to abuse by sore losers (or players who do not like it when you out perform their YOLO COD garbage) will rate you badly for anything as long as they can avoid you...I don't know what is.

But that's just my opinion. What do you guys think?

Kyanbu The Legend 11-23-2014 09:04 PM

It's a nice idea in concept but very flawed in that it can be abused by players over petty reasons. Such as losing in a fair match or because you politely asked them to stop trolling.

Or getting killed cause I sniped you from a distance in a Tank Destroyer. :smug:

Seriously though...why have a system like this that is so easily abused by people who get mad enough over being outplayed that they need to rep someone as avoid for whatever they want.

Kyanbu The Legend 11-23-2014 09:28 PM

Yup, you can't snipe if you aren't camping to some degree. It just wouldn't be proper sniping. XD

I prefer to joke around with everyone, regardless of performance.

My rep is good, though I should be upfront and note that I haven't been on Live much in the past year or two.

Still I can't help but feel that if you're this upset about your rep numbers, such that you need to make a thread and counter/justify yourself to a bunch of people who likely have had no effect on your rep, maybe you do need to watch your language and how you play now and again.

But I dunno, maybe I've never come across the kinds of players you have who like to report everyone.

I think you misunderstand...I am not upset about the rep. I was at one time (when I first started playing) but than I learned just how EASILY this system is abused. All this bad rep? Just from playing one game for nearly two months trying to get good at it and playing as a member of a team.

And by abused...I mean you do not need to validate. All you do is select a player, select to rep them, than avoid and give one of three reasons: Communication, Behavior, or Player Skill with another three. Player Skill has Being bad at the game, not understanding it, or being too good at the game as options.

Apparently, some people get ticked when you try to play as a team and help others out or don't go running into a meat grinder YOLO Lemming Train style and try to point out we are leaving a flank open WHILE trying to set up to hold that flank in a Tank that should not be trying to do so.

I was asking if the system is as easily abused as it seems to be.

World of Tanks Slang Note

'Lemming Train' is a term used to describe when nearly the whole or a team of 15 runs in one direction. Typically is stopped by one or two shots and fails to capitalize on their numbers and gets easily slaughtered by the enemy team.

When an outcome is consistently negative, you can only blame others for so long.

I think some introspection is in order, if you see no correlation between your negative rep, and espousing such opinions.

Put another way: If everyone is "abusing" the system and illegitimately repping you to avoid playing with you again, maybe you should consider why they feel the need to do so.

Granted I should reword that but I've checked into this...this abuse problem has been talked about on various forums for a long time now. There are players that are abusing it and it is a known issue.

Case in point...I ran into a player who basically called not just the enemy team but their own team mates "retards" and was otherwise verbally abusive to everyone. He had a five-star rep. Now explain how a guy who is verbally abusive to his own team on the mic has five stars? Even with only my own issues...I'm only PART of the problem.

EDIT: Also, nice job ignoring the note right under what you quoted making it clear I do not think that of all CoD players.

EDIT2: In short, and as an example...You have an outstanding game? Someone can rep to avoid you for anything they want whether they were on the enemy team or your own team.

EDIT3: This is from one of Wargaming's own employees and they are encouraged to play the game even during work hours. This person represents the company on the forums and in the game. Do you think they are going to act like arseholes to other players or would that not look bad on the company and stop people from playing?

Also, you can not see why another player has good or bad rep. Just yourself. So you got no clue why someone's rep is in the tank if they got 2 or less stars.

I would recommend just log on, play the game, shut the hell up, do your job, and try with your very biggest boy pants to not call them all CoD playing rejects of society.

I mean rpg makes a heck of a point right there that, in the offhanded way you referred to them like that, sure you're among friends here and like can chill back and crack a beer and have a laugh but it gives insight into how you view the people you play games with and that shines through in other ways too.

Yeah, I will edit that part out. But I do and again, I am not bitching about it or getting upset. I am having a good laugh at the expense of the players who took the time to rep me as avoid like they did. I was hoping people would want to laugh at the sore losers with me like Kyanbu is.

I also typically hold my opinion until someone or a bunch of someones start to act in a certain manner. I will not rep a bunch of players just for running a Lemming Train and not pushing it forward. I don't even bad rep if you have your kinect on and we can hear your whole family arguing in the background. I just mute you.

I will rep players as avoid for trolling your team in someway or otherwise being a jerk on the mic to their own team.
