Starship Troopers Enlistment Thread
 
Well look at you, you've graduated, 18 years old and ready to enter the world! It's a great achievement, indeed, but have you considered doing something of a nobler sort? Something for the greater good of you, your family, friends, and most of all, the whole of humanity? If that's your goal, then visit your nearest recruitment center for information on how you can serve the federation, see the galaxy, and help stomp out the Bug menace to earn your citizenship!

-Here's the deal: Read the brief history I put up in the interest thread and then read this. The Terran Federation runs by these basic rules:
1. Citizenship and franchise (the right to vote) is attainable only through serving the government for a set amount of time, which always tends to lengthen in times of war, but what the hell.
2. Non-citizens are simply civillians, and enjoy all the same rights as citizens aside from the rights to vote and hold office.
3. Laws are similar to our own, but focus only on the proved or suspected, and provide for public floggings for minor civil and criminal offenses, such as theft. Hell, if you kid steals something, you get the lashes right alongside of him for being a shitty parent. And don't forget, there's the death penalty as well, by way of the gallows.

You folks wil be serving as members, or prospective members of the Terran Mobile Infantry (MI). Granted, there may be a few exceptions, but only based on the number of signups we get.
--The Mobile Infantryman (or "cap trooper" for short) is heavily armed, armored, and trained. He (as there are no women allowed in the MI) is outfitted in an 800 pound powered armorsuit with the following capabilities:
-highly enhanced strength (give a silverback gorilla a hug, and it won't hurt, in fact, you'll crush it into a paste.)
-Foot mounted jumpjets that allow for a "hopping" type of flight, with max height being at least 100 meters. The controls can be overridden for full flight, but this is dangerous for the inexperienced and burns fuel much faster.
-Self contained radar and comprehensive HUD (provides a full layout of all friendly troops and beacons within 30 km)
-Automatic explosives dispenser, or "y-rack" mounted on the back of the suit that can launch High Explosive bombs at predetermined or radar-chosen targets.
-Titanium alloy armor over all surfaces (save the visor) that provides protection from all but concentrated energy or concussive fire, can resist a small scale nuclear blast from a reasonable distance with the visor able to shied the trooper's eyes.
-Multi-channel radio that is switched by clicking together two contacts mounted on the back molars of the trooper. Channels differ for separate ranks and roles in the squad, for example, the platoon CO hears all chatter between all of his troops and can speak to them all at the same time. He also has a direct link to his sergeants, which he often uses to ask combat tactical advice, as they have to him.

Combat armaments include:
-Hand flamer: Standard issue hand flamethrower, still packing a significant punch, with advanced napalm fuel burning at temperatures at over 5000 Degrees centigrade
-Heavy flamer: The favored bug-burner, larger and more deadly than the hand flamer, as its range is almost doubled, as is its possible spread radius and fuel supply.
-Heavy Combat Rifle (HCR): Used by one or two members of scout teams, but rarely by cap troopers in squad formation, the HCR fires .55 caliber explosive rounds at a decent rate, as the recoil is easily absorbed by the trooper's suit. The drawback to the HCR is its inability to cover a large area quickly, and the fact that bugs almost never go down with one shot.
-Rocket Launcher: Issued only to the platoon CO and often to his sergeants, this is a potent weapon that fires 9 kiloton nuclear warheads at distant, or medial range targets.

Name and Rank: Wolfgang Harken. Sergeant.
Appearance (out of suit): 6'3", 203 pds. This sergeant has long, black hair and hard, green eyes. He's stronger than most other troopers, especially with the strength increase. He has dark tan skin and is a very skilled soldier. He's also very brave and audacious.
Nickname: Torch
Favored weapons (2): Hand Flamer, Heavy Flamer.
Bio: This soldier loves fire. Because of this obsession, he loves to use flamethrowers in battle and prefers them over any other weapon. He only uses other weapons of ordered to do so. His favorite tactic is to use his jumpjets to gain altitude and blast bugs with his flamers. He was born in the slums of a sub-arctic city, forcing him to constantly create fires to keep warm. This started his love for fire. In an effort to get money, he joined the army, where his passion for fire still burns brightly.

Appearance (out of suit): 5' 8", dirty blonde hair cropped short so it's doesn't distract him while she's shooting. His eyes are emerald green and he has a bronzed tan. Usually wears loose fitting clothing designed for comfort yet tight enough to allow for maximum mobility.
Nickname: The Hunter
Favored weapons (2): HCR, Hand Flamer
Bio: A natural sniper, he's a dead shot even at the furthest ranges. He can hit a targe under nearly any condition, raining, poor light, moving, wind, etc. He signed up because he felt his talents would go to waste outside the Army.

Appearance (out of suit): Zinx is 6'3, dark skin, and has the build of a runner, He is clean shaven including his hair, beard mustache.
Nickname: Track Star
Favored weapons (2):Heavy Combat Rifle, Hand Flamer
Bio:Zinx was the captain of the High school track team excelling in the triathlon, long jump and high jump. He is faster than his fellow soldiers but sacrifices the ability to carry heavy loads in favor of speed most of the team. Due to his ability to reach and maintain high speeds he is often used to lure bugs into traps and ambushes. Uses a scout suit.

Name and Rank:James Anderson. Private First Class.
Appearance (out of suit): 6' 6", 226 lbs. James is about as big as they come. His wide shoulders give him great strength but slow his movements. He has short brown hair and ice blue eyes. He's cautious but not cowardly and will speak his mind.
Nickname: Tank
Favored weapons (2): Heavy Combat Rifle (HCR), Hand flamer
Bio: James parents also wanted him to play football but it never appealed to him. He was always more interested in study. His decision to join the army was motivated by a desire to get out of his small town home. He prefers hand to hand combat, but settles for using the big guns and a Hand Flamer when its required.

Talos, you can't be female and part of the MI exactly, I'll type up a medic and psychic class tomorrow and you can choose between those. Supposing you want to stay MI, change your sex and drop the rocket launcher, unless you can convince me to make you an officer or ranking sergeant.

Jaguar, you look ok

h4x and Sith, I'd just advise that heavy flamers, especially for the slightly less mobile among you, would be a much better bet, especially as most all of the combat will be at close-medium range.

h4x again, I forgot to detail the different types of suits there are. Standard MI armor is called Marauder armor. There are two other types: Scout suits and Command suits. Scout suits (which would most likely be what you'd wear, unless you can convince me that you'd be a good platoon CO) are lighter armored than marauder suits, but are much faster. Command suits are as fast as scout suits, and also as well armored as Marauder suits, but are reserved strictly for commanding officers.

Just some stuff to think about

Can I be a commanding officer?

What is a commanding officer anyway? (Sergeant, lieutenant, general, I don't know any more expect private...)

I took the Hand Flamer because it was the only other thing that sounded good. If you know of anymore weapons throw em up and I might make a few changes. Also I'll take the Marauder Armor.
