Play Testing

Ok. I've designed an entire tabletop RPG system by myself based on the Breath of Fire console games (especially 3, because it's my favorite). I've already dicked around with the combat system a LITTLE bit, and it seems to be working ok, but I need to test the experience system and race balancing a bit now.

Basically, this means I need to play a 'campaign' in it.

Now, I want to eventually start a forum RPG using it, but I don't want to be testing it while doing that. I'd like it completely finalized before that.

So, I need 8 people, or a lesser amount willing to play more than one character. All 8 are going to need to have AIM, because that's my favored method of private internet communication.

I would be especially happy if Dante would sign up, as that he seems uber experienced with table top systems, and could be a big help to me. Same with FZ, although I doubt I'll get him because he's dropped out of RPs lately.

Once I have enough people willing to join, I'll post who gets to, and then they can start messaging me on AIM... after I send a mass PM to all of them with my screen name.

Note: It will be Sci-fi based, but with magic and other fantasy elements, as that I have a system put up for guns. So anyone who hates that, would probably be better not signing up.

Also Note: The actual RPing in it will be extremely relaxed and random. I just need to test things. I'm not going to come up with an epic campaign. It's going to amount to "You're um... 8 guys... now like... do stuff." and "A badguy is now!"

Well, not THAT bad, but you get the point.

Based on Breath of Fire you say? I call the Ryu-type character (Dragon guy).

Never played the games, but I'm always interested in something new. Give me a spot and I'll try my best to keep up.

Alright, IHMN can be the human with a few more creation points which will immediately be spent on picking his dragon gene(s).

...so, 2 down, 6 to go.

Also, I forgot to mention, there's actually 10 races, but I never played a game in which the other two races were playable, so I haven't gotten stats set up for them.

So... anyone who's played breath of fire 2 and wants to tell me what the monkey and frog's stats were like, that'll open up room for another two.

IHateMakingNames 06-21-2004 10:12 PM

Bwhahaha! Hyperion with uzis! It would be unstoppable!

I've played all the BoF games.

The frog sucked in battle. The monkey was average.

Edit - This is excluding the sage mixing things (Even if I did include it, the other characters are still better if you give them sages).

Right... but what were there agility/pow/etc. stats like?

I actually have played BoF2, but it was on a one night rental and I never got far enough for either the frog or the monkey.

IHateMakingNames 06-21-2004 10:16 PM

Oh... You want actual stats...

... No idea. I would assume Sten (Monkey) is either supposed to be high on agility or strength or defense (Maybe a mix of those). The Frog guy, weak on all (I hated him). I specificly remember never wanting to use the frog guy for battles because he sucked so much.

If this was my old computer, I could just use my BoF 2 ROM savestate and check.

I can look it up in a guide I suppose... I just got burnt out on reading guides... I read through a bunch of them just to get as much done as I have.

I would like to help too, Krylo. I'm also experienced with table top games, though I'm not entirely familiar with Breath of Fire.

I will have to get AIM, though, and familiarize myself with it. And possibly break out BOF 1&2 out of my hoarde and familiarize myself with those, too.

I offer my assistance.

You know what would REALLY assist me? Sending me BoF 2. Like right now. I want that game, damnit!
