Sprite Help
 

Okay, I'd like to think I'm a fairly decent sprite artist, and I've come up with a nice little sprite messing around in PS for a while (yeah, photoshop is overkill for 8-bit sprites, I know)

Anywho, I'm fairly happy with it, what I could use some help with is setting it apart a little more from black mage, whom, combined with red mage, was sort of my inspiration - it started more or less as a "hey! lets see what black mage and red mage look combined together" project, but now I think I wanna give him his own identity, so any ideas as to how to do that?

Always open to constructive criticism on the sprite work too.

Revision 1: removed feather - some cleanup.

Still drawing a blank on ideas to establish an identity.

My only suggestion is to choose a lighter "dark red" for the shadowing, as it looks a little too heavy at the moment.

Other than that, though, whee!

Yeah, I originally did the first in paint, and when I switched it over to photoshop to try to speed up the progress, the dark red seemed to get darker. I should've comphensated for it then but I didn't think it was that big a thing, but it's a quick fix it is.

Okay, tweaked the colour and made a minor fix or two, tell me what you think.

Better, much better. Shows how much of a difference a small change can make. ;)

Well, I'd say... hmm... *is confused*

Looks cool. :D I think he'd be smart, evil, cute... Basically, I'd say you'd have to balance his personality between Red Mage and Black Mage, poses for humor. So, he'd cheat, and lie... and stab stuff, but miss due to lack of points in stabbing, so he'd have to rewrite his character sheet, etc... I can go on for hours.

Has this new character got a name? :p

I'm thinking a Necro Mage ... as in Necromacer, as evidenced in my first comic and him trying to raise the unconscious from death :)
