Metal Gear Online

Read the second paragraph from the bottom.

Personally, I don't want to see Metal Gear go online. I mean, what can you do online with Metal Gear? 'Sides, Final Fantasy Online was a bomb.

[Edit]Is this maybe "Metal Gear Acid"?[/Edit]

Otaku: MGS Online has been talked about forever, so it's bound to come out eventually.

I don't think you can honestly call FFXII a bomb. As much as I personally dislike the game, it's got a ton of good press and customers here and even better in Japan, I believe.

Also, it's not Metal Gear Acid. Metal Gear Acid is a new MGS game for the PSP.

What would they do for MGS online? It's pretty much a solo person game. You could go stealth around killing other players as solid snake but I think that would just take away from the series. And even co-op play wouldn't be right because it's solid snake. He doesn't need to work with other ppl to do a job.

Also, I sohuld've added this last night: It's silly to compare FFXII and Metal Gear Online because it's highly unlikely Metal Gear Online will be an MMORPG. The only comparison that can be drawn is that both are the first online ventures from major franchises.

As for how the play would work, I imagine it'll be something similar to Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. But knowing Kojima he'll have a twist thrown in.

MP37a: Have you honestly PLAYED the series? Solid Snake doesn't need to work with other people? Heh. He's ALWAYS working with other people.

Don't you mean FFXI because that was the online FF.

MP37a 07-02-2004 12:36 PM

He doesn't need to work with other ppl as he doesn't need a team to walk along with him. I know he has support from Otacon and all those ppl. He fought with Raiden a couple times but he would have been fine without. All the missions he went on he started out by himself and worked primarely by himself with assistance over the radio. And it'd be pretty boring just giving tips to other players as your only job via communications. :P

Raiden 07-02-2004 04:20 PM

The only thing I could think of in an online version would be the classic shoot-'em-up game, where everyone makes their own version of Snake and goes around killing people.

And on a side note, Raiden is an insult to Raiden's everywhere. The ninja is a pansy. And he even goes through an entire frickin' level naked! It saddens me.

First FFXII is not yet out, and it's offline. Secondly, FFXI flopped so badly in Japan, they made an offline version. And while MGO will probably not be a MMORPG, it still feels wrong. And since I haven't played Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, I can't judge how that worked, but I already know just from the first game the Splinter Cell "franchise" is a MG-wannabe(don't even deny those jungle stages in Pandora Tomorrow weren't an attempt to rip-off the up-coming MGS3), so it can't be hurt too badly.

Via Codec for the useful parts. Meryl was pretty worthless(Look at me wak across these mines with no problem, but then Snake went around the edge!). Jennifer was useless. Raiden was absolutely worthless, an you played as him! The scientists are always worthless.

IHateMakingNames 07-02-2004 11:10 PM

MGS Online would be Hide and Seek, with guns.

Otaku Son 07-02-2004 11:16 PM

Which would completely ruin the MGS feel.

Also, I read there might be an experimental Metal Gear Online beta with MGS3, along with the ability to download more camoflague patterns. Do I feel a PS2-HD-needed support coming on?
