Mages of Marakta- Ch.3 "The Hunt"

Samuel sat atop of Antonio with his Eye of Odin crystal placed between his eyes. He was using his Omnipotent Sight power. Most of the other mages tended to keep from looking at Samuel's eyes while he used his crystal's power. Except for Jude and Ray. They were the scholars, and something like this fascinated them. They would simply stare at his eyes while he performed his spell. He would sometimes come out of his vision and see them only inches from his face. He would then teach them that it was rude to be so close to people when they use a spell, using a few choice spells of his own. When changed, his eyes turned into vortexes of light, which some said they could see pictures in. Some said they saw heaven. Others said they saw hell. Back at school, Samuel had driven one of the teachers insane by performing the Omnipotent Sight spell and having the teacher stare into his eyes. They say the teacher has yet to recover from it.

Samuel was currently looking at the closest town. It was a very nice town. Obviously one of the richer ones around. It's inn was fully stocked with all kinds of food and spirits. They had nice beds. Even the stables were big enough to accomodate the myriad of creatures they had brought with them.

Too bad the town was still another two days ride.

Samuel removed the crystal from between his eyes, and they became his original piercing blue. He frowned at Jude and Ray, who had been staring at his eyes again. He then looked back at the group. They had found the female Dark Mage while she was removing the spine from a guard. That girl was quiet, but she was a bitch when you pissed her off. They then left the village trap, leaving Solomon in the uncomfortable situation that Zak had placed him in.

"Kenyu was correct. The town is comfortable. With good travel, we might get there in two days, around evening." He heard some grumbles from the group.

"Boo frickin hoo, so the mages have to get out of the city and actually travel." Ken's camel brayed then spit a great glob of white spit. He pulled out a pipe and began to smoke. "Welcome to my world."

"I've traveled plenty thank you. When I was training I had to walk miles to find a good storm to practice with, of course now I can create my own, but that's not the point." chuckled Sedran, blowing out the flame Ken was using to light his pipe.

"Thank you." Ken said as he continued to smoke.

"I don't see the problem either," Jace said, "I think you guys grumbling just makes you look lazy." He was used to traveling like this when he was growing up, before he went to the Beast mage school. He thought these champions were people that would be able to withstand this, but to Jace, some of them just seemed to be spoiled rotten.

Saviorus smacked Sedran in the back of the head as he trotted by. "Save it. The sooner we get out of here, the sooner we can get to the city, have a good meal, and be on our merry way." he said.

The others practically had to hold him back from destroying the town and everyone in it. The sooner he got out of here an put the experience behind him, the better.

Hands around Lorelei's waist, Alyrium simply dipped his staff and increased the spread of the minor death field surrounding him. It was a minor enchantment, barely enough to kill a fly... which was its job. Any mosquitoes or other annoying insects insects flying withing 15 feet of him would mysteriously drop dead, the life energy ripped from their bodies by the devouring ward and given to its caster.

He turned and smiled sunnily to the others.

"And our provisions? Or will Risu have to hunt for us tonight?"

Raiden 07-02-2004 10:55 AM

"You don't honestly think we left the town without taking a few supplies first? They're in the bag on Antonio. Some bread, meat, and cheese, along with a few bottles of the good stuff." Samuel smiled.

"Just because we're roughing it for a few days doesn't mean we have to go without."

Alyrium studied Samuel.

"Good thinking. Speaking of which... it would seem the Light Magi are not as trustworthy as we previously expected... "

Derinayr was walking a slight distance away from the rest of the mages. He'd never been part of a group before; in the forest, there weren't many other people to talk to. He only hoped that the large number of bounty hunters after him would not find him and try to kill him, and that no one in the current party discovered that he was a fugitive.
