Out of question I have seen several differetn qualities of PDF/e-book. The best one I have come across has Bookmarks for each comic, while one set was just a long compilation. How many different versions has everyone seen and does anyone know who the authros are cause I can't remember to save my soul who made the compilations.

well, the 301-400 ebook lasted longer at angelfire (since april 15th) than the three others at the first place i setup a mirror at (lasted less than a week back in november).

Does anyone know if Brian has any plans to release a collection of them all in book form when the series is over? *Prays that that day will never come.*

stuper of thought 07-11-2004 06:49 PM

since he has some other thing in the process of being published, it's not likely that he'll do something like that if at all.

plus it pushes the boundries of what is legal under copyright law. so its not going to happen. these are the best you'll be able to do.

This has been discussed several times. Basically, the second Brian is making money off his works that include Square's copyrighted property he is breaking the law. I had heard is has even been discussed with Square, and the answer is a blatant no.

Emphasis mine...

Let me make this very clear: Money is irrelevant to this issue.

If Square decides to sue Brian, "I wasn't making any money off it" isn't a defense that will stand up in any court. People have been successfully sued for copyright infringement who didn't make a dime. Look at what the RIAA is doing.

Either he is or isn't breaking the law, and that's a matter for the courts to decide. Unfortunately, unless a judge dismisses Square's case without allowing a trial Square could keep the proceedings in court so long they could easily bankrupt Brian even if they didn't have a case.

I don't believe they have a case under the 1976 Fair Use clause. But can Brian afford to stay in court with Square for 2, 4, 10 years? I sincerely doubt it. One of the major flaws of our justice system at work - justice is the exclusive province of the wealthy.

The wisest tact is exactly what Brian is doing - keep low and stay off Square's radar. Even if they do know about 8-bit theatre it's unlikely they consider it worth their time or money to quash. Also, Japanese companies tend to be far more tolerant of parody than their American counterparts.
