Unreal Tournament
 

Okay, so I was bored this evening and decided to load up the original Unreal Tournament, having not played it in at least a year and not regularly for several years. I loaded up a saved tournament that was on the last match (couldn't ever beat it before). Let me remind you that this was my first time playing UT in a year....
I BEAT XAN FUCKING KRIEGOR!!!! First try, 15-10. I'm ecstatic. :)

So, who here ever actually beat Xan?

some time last year i was without internet for a few days, so i decided to play some of my older games that i hadn't finished. Unreal Tournament was among them. i kicked ass through all the settings, but when i got to Xan i choked. the best match I had with him i lost by only 1 point (i fell off the damn ship). sadly, i could never best him.

I... honestly never had a problem fighting Xan. But this was long before I ever played anything online. Why I even had purchased UT, I have no clue.

Wait, you purchased UT and you didn't play online? .... well, I guess you already know how strange that sounds. :P
What difficulty setting did you fight Xan on?

Xan Kriegor has always been extremely difficult. However, in a lot of ways in most of the games he's in he's merely a nuisance.

Like Quake III Arena. The map was more frustrating than Xan actually was, considering 75% of the space on the map had no ground.

Unreal Tournament's Xan wasnt so difficult either. I dont remember my score but I think I beat him by a good 6-7 points. Ill go play again and check.

I've beaten him, Took me quite a few trys, but I beat him.(I think it was on easy though)

Anon: I can't remember. I guess it's feasible I had it on an easier setting. And just to not sound like a total idiot, I DID Eventually play a little UT online. I just never got way into it, my lame 56k connection (at the time) being part of the problem.

Took me all day to get to Xan. He was challenging for the first 2-3 minutes of the game, then I clamped down and refused to let him get the Shield belt or the health powerups.

Without the invisibilty and the shield, he is VERY mortal.

Yeah, I spent most of the match in the shield belt tunnel the time I finally beat him. :)

So, wait, Xan was in Quake 3, too? WTF? What games has he been in?

Actually now that I look on the back of the box it seems his name is Xaero.

Oh... favorite part of my fight with Xan - killing him with the Hammer twice. TWICE. PWNED.

And the best weapon for fighting him is definitely the flak cannon - spreads and NICE damage at close range. You'll gib him in 1-2 hits if unarmored, otherwise youre gonna be screwed, head outside and start jumping around. If he's using a minigun run for the shield belt tunnel and see if you can grab some powerups.

If you use a Rocket Launcher and get a lucky hit, you might kill him with 2 proximity hits (hitting wall, ground nearby) or one NICE gib. Otherwise youre never going to hit him with it and do what I did - end up extending the match by killing yourself 3-4 times and eventually starting over.

Dont use a minigun. The single hits dont do enough damage, and Xan is so much of a badass that he's going to stick to only a few weapons that do the most dmg - the Flak or the Rocket Launcher. If he runs out of ammo he'll use this and then whatever else he's got. Your best bet is while he's got rocket and not in the halls of the spaceship, or with the flak cannon with a flak of your own.

Also - WHY THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE THE LAST LEVEL THE HARDEST TO NAVIGATE?
I think the biggest problem I had with fighting Xan was the fucking level. I would jump for the shield belt thing and miss... repetetively. I played the thing twice cuz I killed myself like 8 times. 3 times because Xan wouldnt stop scaring me (his voice freaked me out cuz I had no idea what to expect...) and I kept thinking he was behind me so Id turn around and fire with my RL - only to hit a wall 3 feet from my face and gib myself. That and fighting outside with Xan to have him blast me off the ship and end up as a suicide. -.-

Was definitely one of my more challenging fights, but after the first 2 minutes its just a matter of time. Not the best. But good. ^_~
