Cute. Nice writing... I chuckled a few times. One thing you should work on is the backgrounds, though. They look kinda amateurish/hurried (granted... you did say you were an amateur, so whatever). Other than that, I found it rather amusing.

Bob The Mercenary 11-28-2003 10:58 PM

I liked it. It was really more than I expected out of an amateur. Not that I"m an expert on the subject or anything.

Lost in Time 11-29-2003 01:02 AM

He. Where did you get that Alec Trabec sprite? Can you even get that negitive on Jepordy?

Ah, the FF1 White Mage, a classic mistake.

Don't worry. Everyone makes it. I'll attach the base WM sprites that Brian uses.

Other than that... the sprites look a little wierd, because either you saved them without the outlines, or you got rid of them by accident. It could have been any number of things...

The humor was pretty good. Especially BM's wager. Funniest part of the comic. :D

Edit: That's a little big, ain't it? Sorry, don't have anything smaller.

Mikorlias Zard 11-29-2003 07:48 AM

Pretty good. I can't comment on the cartooning because a.) I know nothing about cartooning and b.) Even if I did I'd undoubtedly suck at it. ;)

Hehe, good comic :)

Sorry I haven't extended on that, I'm too tired atm, but good comic nevertheless ;)

Introduction 11-29-2003 08:41 AM

"Bite me, Trebek!"

Heh, that was pretty good.

Identikit 11-29-2003 01:14 PM

lol twas quite funny. Ending was supoib : D

Also i belive the trebek sprtie is a modified fighter sprite.

Dante 11-29-2003 01:35 PM

It made me laugh, thus it was good.

Archdeco 11-29-2003 03:05 PM

Now that I think of it, those overworld sprites I attached are crap... but he hardly ever uses WM's overworld sprites.... if only the batty one could save us!!

*looks around*

MC43 11-29-2003 05:26 PM

I will admit that the background was kind of rushed, but it was the best I could do for a first time thing.

As for the White Mage sprite, I didn't have the correct sprite. I just took the ones from the game that obviously didn't look as good as in 8-bit theater. Thank you Archdeco. I'm going to copy those into my "portfolio."

Yes... Trebeck was just a modified Fighter sprite.

As for the outlines, I don't really like them, so I leave them out, but everyone has told me to keep them in, if I make another one, I'll put them in.

Archdeco 11-29-2003 06:54 PM

Well, what it does is put huge gaping holes in the Fighter and the others. They look real screwy without them.

batgirl 12-01-2003 01:17 AM

Being a sucker for SNL and especially that skit wins you extra points. Since I know nothing of makign sprites, I can't comment on them. It was funny though and i give it 4 fighters out of five.

:fighter: :fighter: :fighter: :fighter:

CHICAGO¤lollie 12-01-2003 07:57 AM

Do you have a copy of Adobe Photoshop handy? Because it's much easier to use than Paint when it comes to making comics.

MS Paint is great for sprites, as it doesn't smooth anything out, but if you make a mistake when putting a piece of a comic together, chances are you have to redo that piece.

APS on the other hand, works on a system of layers, thus making comic making very much easier ;)
If you make a mistake, like place a character too close (or far away) from another character or object, all you have to do is move that one layer, instead of recreating a piece of the scene.

Having said that though, APS is an absolute piece of -- erm -- doggy doo, when it comes to handling sprites. Like, it's not worth opening up a *.bmp file in APS to work on sprites, because there's a total lack of pixel-by-pixel based tools there. This is when logic fails, and a Microsoft program ACTUALLY becomes useful (wow!). :p

Don't mind me, just posting parts of a rant. Again, good comic

MC43 12-01-2003 09:46 PM

Hmm... Adobe photoshop, huh? I'm going to have to look into that. I will give you that, MSPaint was a mother to work on, but it did get the job done for me.

Neverwhere 12-02-2003 02:20 PM

yeah use adobe photo shop. When I read it i was constantly thinking of Celeberty Jepordy from SNL (which was excellent I might add) so your comic was good in that way. It made me chuckle a couple times (bite me trebek, fighters life, sword collection) and even got me a few weird looks from my coworkers (which is the ultimate approval imho). Good job.

Archdeco 12-02-2003 04:23 PM

I think Brian uses adobe photoshop for the comic.

BMHadoken 12-02-2003 07:39 PM

I'd hate to be anal, but since BM wagered Fighter's Life, he actually saved it. If he had gotten it wrong, THEN the Jeopardy people would have had to kill Fighter.

But I laughed. Good Work.

Wolf99x 12-02-2003 09:00 PM

Actually, you're right there. When you think about it.

Yup, Adobe Photoshop 7 if I'm not mistaken.
Although, it takes a bit of time to learn how to use it. I know first-hand.

But really, one you know how to use APS7, and once you get the key elements down (photographic backgrounds treated to a sponge/median effect, unless using a nuclear mushroom BOOM picture; fonts ACME Secret Agent, Twelve Ton Goldfish, and Twelve Ton Sushi are the main ones in play, goto BlamBot.com to get them; etc.), the only things limiting your comics are your imagination, and your sprite collection. ;)

MC43 12-03-2003 07:46 PM

Hm... maybe this would be a good time to gather up some ideas. I was thinking of making some more Game show parodies.

Currently, I am thinking of having a Family Fued one. FF1 vs. FFTA. Do you guys have any ideas out there for me? I'd love a little inspiration, not to mention, maybe you guys will thank of something I haven't...

CHICAGO¤lollie 12-03-2003 10:02 PM

Haven't heard of that one. Might have to check Austar for that

Got four suggestions for Game Show parodies though:
  • The Price is Right
  • Wheel of Fortune
  • The Weakest Link
  • Jerry Springer (Well, the "contestants" win universal humiliation)
