Mages of Marakta Discussion Thread #3

Last one was closed, and decided we needed one (Because I have a question, and don't want to make a pure OOC post).

When this guy finds water and gets away, do you mean he is just going in the water, or is he a water mage and using it magically?

Raiden 07-10-2004 07:10 PM

He's not a mage. But he goes in the water, goes either up or down in, and comes out someplace different.

That's a basic thing of nature. Scents, tracks, etc. get dragged downstream if it's moving, and they don't get attached to the water if it isn't. That's why if you're ever chased by dogs, go through water. It makes it a hell of a lot harder to find you.

IHateMakingNames 07-10-2004 07:12 PM

But you can just search the bank until there are tracks, which would be a wet trail. Since there are at least two trackers (Dire and Fenris, and maybe Loki depending on how close together the trees are), one can go upstream while the other goes downstream, then look for the tracks/wet trail.

Raiden 07-10-2004 07:20 PM

But if the guy wants to be hidden bad enough, he'll be sure to not leave tracks or a wet trail.

Keep in mind, we're probably not the first people who's tried to find him. He's had quite a bit of practice doing this.

IHateMakingNames 07-10-2004 07:32 PM

How do you not leave a wet trail after traveling in source of water?

I'm not trying to get it so Dire would have found the guy (Artifact guy had good leads so the water would have dried), but I'm curious as to how you think how he could not leave a wet trail.

Raiden 07-10-2004 07:37 PM

Many ways:

1)Carries dry clothing in a water-proof bag, and changes after getting on shore.

2)Finds a dock and walks away. Every single trail leading away from the dock will be a wet one.

3)Enters a tunnel under the water and comes up someplace far away.

Not to mention others.

IHateMakingNames 07-10-2004 07:42 PM

For one, time is usually a factor when being chased, and getting undressed, storing everything in a bag, then later drying himself and the bag off, then getting dressed again, that would take time which he probably doesn't have.

For two, that one would be best.

For three, he would have to get really lucky a lot to try that and not drown...

The tunnel could be one of those things where it has an underground cave so he can just swim under for a few secs then breathe in the cave.

And how many times do you think you've narrowly missed this guy?

IHateMakingNames 07-10-2004 07:47 PM

Three times? I don't know. It doesn't really matter though.

I think now would be a good time to speed up the finding of Mr. Artifact, nobody is doing anything and if we let it go for too long I think the Dark Mages are gunna be making the Mage with two backs.
