Also, 1.5x for mage slaying spells means take the EXP cost of the spell (Let's say it's 100), then multiply it by 1.5, which is 50. So the spell cost 150 EXP to learn. 1/1.5 means take the spell (Let's say 100 again), and divide that by 1.5, which is 66.666666666666666 Edit - Joe, that's only 20 points you got rid of... |

So, yah. You need to rebalance at LEAST the dark elves. I spent less points on stats for that guy, ended up with more hp (due to 10 points left over), and better skills. Edit: I'm going to go make a class-less character from every race, to see how they hold up, then I'm going to make a human of every class to see how they're balanced out. Edit 2: Just realized that I forgot resistance starts at 0, so I fixed that. It only worsens the problem, however, causing the human to lose 2 hp to compensate, while the dark elf only lost one. That's before class. After class the hp loss to the humans is worse. |

Also, a 6 in appearance is not bland, it means something about you is not pleasant to look at. Edit 2 - Heh, krylo's doing all the work for me... Sure, it's to prove that this system sucks and I butchered his, but work is work. And I had originally planned for spells to be much faster, then changed it. I'll throw in some rolls. That all seems fairish... Besides Dark Elves, because they were basically average on all, but higher then humans.

Dark elves, Humans, and Ogres are all unbalanced. Ogres have just as much stat goodness as Dark Elves, and Humans are stuck at 64 w/out appearance, while the other races hover close to 70.
Otherwise, yah, pretty close. Just give the humans some sort of advantage to even out the 6 stat points they're missing. Maybe a few extra exp, or something. |
Here are the new Dark Elves and Ogres.
Dark Elves – ½ for strength, ½ for defense, ½ for agility, 1.5x for resistance, 2x for magic, 2x for appearance, 5x for charisma. +2 to intimidation, 30 in Dark resistance, -50 in Light resistance. Ogre – 1/5 strength, 1/4 defense, ½ life, 1/3 stamina, 2x magic, 5x agility, 2x speed, 4x appearance, 2x charisma. +3 to intimidation I haven't decided how to boost humans though. |
Just one small nitpick... why do dark elves take a hit to appearance? In most fantasy universes they're considered to be just as attractive as their light skinned brethern, but they're not liked (which would be a charisma thing, I would think)/feared.
I'd drop appearance to base, and then just drop defense or strength to 3/4. Edit: Also, dwarves are better than dark elves or ogres. Almost missed that. |
I always though Dark Elves were uglier then the other elves, because they live in the dark. Dark Elves remind me of the dark side jedis, who are twisted and wierd looking.

I thought the Human advantage was that they could become any of the different classes, while the other races were limited.
But if extra EXP is what they get, fine by me. It gives me a better chance of getting a spell or two. |

And I'll make dwarves pay 3x for speed. They can run the longest, but not the fastest. Edit - If you are going to do that class thing, I would rather wait for you to do that, then make the new thread after I can balance classes. One extra post won't hurt. Edit 2 - My guess is that classes are very unbalanced. (Reposting because I don't want to push this past the limit any more then it already is) I haven't really limited classes on many races. Just the slower and/or bigger races can't be archers and thieves. I probably should though... Edit - I included some rolls to affect spell dodging, and now every time you cast a spell there is a 1 in 200 chance that it fails, and a 1 in 200 chance that it backfires (Summons have 1 in 100 chance to fail). You don't HAVE to listen to me with these. I'd suggest looking at them yourself before deciding to weaken/strengthen or not... except the ones with major on them. Those should be weakened at least a little. Also, check above for part one of this list. I didn't actually repost because it's too big for one post anyway. Edit: Other than a few they seem mostly balanced. Those with extra stat points don't get skills/magic stuff cheap/for free, while those with fewer get lots of that. The exceptions are the ones that I have the major on. |
I took out the +3 intimidation, brought down appearance to +9, and added the extra to my savings to bring my Dodge skill from +3 to +4, and got a spell.
