Super Nintendo RPG: Project Revived

You heard correctly. I've resumed work on the project. I've dumped the z-axis, for Gamemaker had trouble working with it, and decided to take a route that's a bit more retro in form.

Currently, I have several enemies up and running, the ability to kill some, the ability to move, jump, and use Link's bow, and a physics structure which means the longer you hold back the bowstring, the more powerful the shot.

I'm currently working on a health system, a system for multiple party members, and an inventory.

Feel free to post feedback, ideas for enemies, items, levels, etc.

I take it this is a platformer, then?

Magic Juggler 07-16-2004 10:09 AM

Platformer-style atmosphere, RPG gameplay. The game, when complete, will include the ability to have up to 4 party members, spell-casting, experience points, the works.

That being said, here's a new image. Due to the way the game is configured, the graphics are scaled according to screen resolution. This means that at higher resolutions, the images begin to look ultra-pixelated. The game is meant to run at 800x600 res, although this screenshot was taken at 1024x768.

The Goombas in the previous picture were numerous, but they die off in droves. The Hammer Bros, pictured here, aren't such easy foes.

That's really cool.

Is Link the only character you can play as?

Magic Juggler 07-16-2004 05:48 PM

For the demo, yes. For the final game, no. This game is called Super Nintendo RPG, not Link's Great RPG.

The way it works is as follows (in the final game of course):

You can have a party of 4. You start off with one, whom you select. Depending upon whom you select, you start off in a different location of the game. You control one person at a time, although other members will support you on their own anyways; in fact, you'll be able to alter their combat parameters, thus determining their aggression in a fight.

Of course, this is merely the demo I am working on. Here's what I've completed:

-Character movement.
-Collision Checking.
-Link can fire his Bow. Depending upon how long you hold down the Bow key, the arrow travels a greater distance.
Enemies can damage him. If his health reaches 0, it's Game Over.

-Enemies:
*Goomba: Can be squished. Does damage if it runs into Link. Programmed to move in relationship of Link.
*Hammer Bros: Tosses hammers around.
*Bill Blaster: Launches a Bullet Bill every 4 seconds.
*Bullet Bill: If it hits a wall, or Link, it explodes. Best to get out of the blast, or else you'll suffer.

What I haven't done:
-Inventory. I need to make it so that you can equip stuff.
-Link's sword and shield. Except for his bow, he's pretty much unarmed. Good luck with the demo...
-Any character besides Link. For the next game, I am considering making Zelda playable. After Zelda, I need suggestions. Geno, maybe?

Sorry to double-post, but this is urgent. The demo is now complete; go to the webpage http://www.freewebs.com/legionaire to download it.

suggestions

-Mario
-Geno
-Fox
-Samus
I not that good at thinking of of suggestions, so that's all I got.

Mario, Samus, Link, and Megaman sound like good ideas for characters. They're all really big in the area of popularity, so unless youre planning on having more than 4 that might be a good choice for you.

However, it IS Super Nintendo RPG - you should use the SNES characters that seem the most fitting to you.

And Im downloading the Demo as we speak. Ill tell you what I think of it as I finish.

Yes, but as cool as he is, MegaMan is a Capcom character, not a Nintendo one.

Honestly, I'd like to see some creedence given to some of the less popular Nintendo characters, the sort who didn't make it into Smash Bros. (but should have been, dammit... *shakes fist*). Maybe use Bald Bull, the Excitebike duder, or Diddy and/or Dixie Kong? That's just my opinion, though; take it or leave it as you see fit.

Also, if Diddy Kong isn't in the next Smash Bros. installment, I quit. Okay, probably not, but it's fun to threaten anyway...
